UWCL Review: Kennedy, Fowler & Foord score in the UWCL | Matildas Abroad

Alanna Kennedy scored her stunning strike to find her first goal in European football, Mary Fowler scored the match winner for Manchester City and was named Player of the Match; while Caitlin Foord made it goals in back-to-back games after she scored in Arsenal's win over Vålerenga.

Group C

Arsenal picked up their first win of the UEFA Women's Champions League group stage with a 4-1 win over Norwegian side Vålerenga. Emily Fox opened the scoring at Emirates Stadium early in the match, before Caitlin Foord made it goals in back-to-back games to score Arsenal's second of the night.

Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo added their names to the scoresheet late in the game to seal a 4-1 win. Steph Catley came off the bench in the 61st minute to help the Gunners hold on to their victory, while Kyra Cooney-Cross was an unused substitute.

Group D

Manchester City made it two wins from two in the group stage after a 3-2 win over Austrian side St. Pölten. Alanna Kennedy opened the scoring in the 6th minute for Manchester City, firing in a stunning strike from distance to notch her first goal in European football.

Melanie Brunnthaler put the hosts back level to send both teams into the break locked at 1-1. St. Pölten took the lead early in the second half, but City found an immediate response through Aoba Fujino to make it 2-2. 

With the scores locked at 2-2 and City destined to take one point back home, up stepped Mary Fowler to nod in the matchwinner from a Lauren Hemp corner to see Manchester City claim the victory and Fowler named Player of the Match.
