Matildas Abroad Preview: CommBank Matildas face off as Everton host Charlton; AS Roma in Serie A Cup semi-final

Up to five Australians will be on the pitch at once in the WSL as Everton hosts Charlton Athletic.

Elsewhere, Winonah Heatley's AS Roma will take on Sassuolo in the Serie A Cup semi-final.

England

WSL

London City Lionesses will hope to continue their strong start to the season when they travel to take on West Ham on Saturday, 9.45pm AEST. Alanna Kennedy played a key role in their win on the opening day of the season and is expected to start again on the weekend.

Chelsea face a tough test after their opening day draw, taking on Manchester United on Sunday, 9pm AEST. Both teams have designs on the title but will need to turn their form around quickly if they are to challenge. Ellie Carpenter will be available for Chelsea.

Brighton & Hove Albion showed plenty of fighting spirit last week and will have the chance to earn their first points of the season away at Birmingham on Sunday, 11pm AEST. Charlie Rule has been a mainstay for Brighton over the past few seasons and is expected to start again this weekend.

CommBank Matildas face off when Holly McNamara and Clare Wheeler’s Everton host Emily van Egmond and Leah Davidson’s Charlton Athletic on Sunday, 11pm AEST. With CommBank Young Matilda Grace Johnston also involved it is set to be a fascinating match full of Australian flavour.

Tottenham Hotspur travel to play Liverpool on Sunday, 3pm AEST. Clare Hunt has been continuing to recover from a knee injury and will be unavailable.

Arsenal host Crystal Palace on Sunday, 11.45pm AEST. The Gunners secured three points from the opening week of the season and will be hopeful of challenging for the title this campaign. Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross will all be available for Arsenal.

Finally, defending champions Manchester City take on Aston Villa on Monday, 3.30am AEST. Mary Fowler started and scored last week and will hope to continue on that vein this weekend.

WSL2

Kaitlyn Torpey’s Newcastle United travel to take on Bristol City on Sunday, 2.15am AEST. A win for the Magpies would see them start the season with six points from two games and give them the best possible platform for their aspirations of promotion.

Nottingham Forest host Watford on Sunday, 11pm AEST. Alana Murphy started the season with a goal, and will hope to continue to start, while Leticia McKenna is in line to debut for her new club.

Sweden

Malmö FF host Eskilstuna United on Saturday, 11pm AEST. It’s a potential European qualification six-pointer – Malmö currently sit in third, three points above fourth-place Eskilstuna. Courtney Nevin, Charlotte Grant and Amy Sayer will be available for Malmö.

FC Rosengård play at the same time of Saturday, 11pm AEST as they take on Uppsala. Three points against the bottom-of-the-table side could see them lift out of the relegation zone entirely. Remy Siemsen, Isabel Gomez and Bryleeh Henry will be available for Rosengård.

Daniela Galic’s Vittsjö GIK take on top-of-the-table BK Häcken on Sunday, 9pm AEST. Any point for Vittsjö will go a long way to helping them attempt to mow down Malmö for a UWCL place.

United States

Gotham FC play Racing Louisville on Saturday, 8.30am AEST. Gotham are top of the table by two points while Louisville face an uphill battle lifting themselves up from 13th. Sam Kerr will be available for Gotham.

Portland Thorns host Chicago Stars on Monday, 9am AEST. Mackenzie Arnold is expected to be in goals as the Thorns fight for a top four spot.

Germany

Eintracht Frankfurt host TSG Hoffenheim on Monday, 12am AEST. Hayley Raso has been a regular starter this season while Jamilla Rankin will hope to get some minutes against her former side. 

Italy

AS Roma take on Sassuolo in the Serie A Cup play-offs on Sunday, 8pm AEST. Winonah Heatley will be available for Roma.

Canada

Kahli Johnson’s Calgary Wild host Halifax Tides on Sunday, 4am AEST. They are now five league games undefeated and will be looking to make it six this weekend.
