UWCL Preview: Matchday 3 gets underway in the group stage

Matchday 3 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage get underway overnight, with CommBank Matildas involved in four fixtures.

Group A

Ellie Carpenter's Lyon will travel to Italy to take on Roma in their third group-stage game of the campaign, with the 8-time champions currently holding a perfect record heading into their game against Roma. Lyon recorded a 3-0 win over Galatasaray and a 2-0 win over Wolfsburg in their opening two games of the group stage.

This will be a top-of-the-table clash as Roma and Lyon are the only team remaining in Group A that are yet to suffer defeat and will be no easy beat for Joe Montemurro's side.

Group B

Daniela Galic's FC Twente will be hoping to pick up their second win of the group stage when they travel to Spain to take on Real Madrid. The side from the Netherlands faced a 3-1 defeat in their last outing in the UWCL and will be aiming to get their campaign back to winning ways.

Sam Kerr's Chelsea will travel to Scotland to take on Celtic, as the Blues look to make it three wins from three in the group stage and put themselves in the pole position to take one of the two quarter-finals spots from Group B.

The two sides sit on either end of the standings, with Chelsea in first place with 6 points, while Celtic's history-making first-ever time in the UWCL group stage sees them at the bottom with 0 points.

Group C

Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross' Arsenal will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins in the group stage and keep themselves in the top half of the table when they travel to Italy to take on Juventus.

Arsenal's UWCL group stage got off to a disappointing start, being defeated 5-2 by Bayern Munich, the side then picked up their first three points of the group stage with a 4-1 win over Vålerenga. The Gunners currently sit in second place, equal on points with Juventus, but will be looking to get maximum points when travelling abroad to set them up for quarter-finals qualification.

Group D

Last up, Mary Fowler and Alanna Kennedy's Manchester City will also be aiming to keep their perfect record in the group stage intact when they host Swedish side, Hammarby.

Manchester City have had a blistering start in this season's group stage, defeating the reigning champions, Barcelona, in their opening game and coming from behind to beat St. Pölten 3-2, with Kennedy and Fowler both on the scoresheet in the game.
