Squad Talking Points: June/July Squad Announcement

Some familiar faces return from injury/personal leave, while two players receive their first senior call-up ahead of the June/July FIFA International Window.

Joe Montemurro has named his first CommBank Matildas squad since his appointment, with 33 players selected for the June/July FIFA Women’s International Window in Western Australia.

This window signals a key moment as the team moves into the next phase of building foundations for an exciting international cycle, which includes the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ in Brazil, and the Los Angeles 2028™ Olympic Games.

Returning Players

The squad features the welcome return of Mackenzie Arnold, Sharn Freier and Hayley Raso from injury. Arnold and Raso have missed the last two international windows after being sidelined with injuries. Freier has not featured for Australia this year after sustaining an injury with Brisbane Roar.

Ellie Carpenter makes her return to the squad, with the defender taking personal leave for Australia's series against Argentina.

The 33-player squad sees the return of some players to the fold, with Chloe Berryhill (née Logarzo), Alex Chidiac, Emily Gielnik, Jessika Nash and Remy Siemsen receiving their first call-ups of the year, with all five players featuring for Australia in our final games of 2024 against Chinese Taipei.

Defender Alexia Apostolakis returns to the squad, with her first full call-up after the defender was called into Australia's squad for their games against Korea Republic as a train-on player.

Midfielder Jacynta Galabadaarachchi returns to the squad for the first time since June 2022, returning to the squad after spending the last two seasons with Portuguese team Sporting CP.

Maiden Call-Up

CommBank Young Matildas forward Grace Kuilamu (Brisbane Roar FC) and Victorian midfielder Adriana Taranto (Western United FC) have both earned their first senior call-ups.

Kuilamu and Taranto join five uncapped players who have been selected, while 16 players have fewer than 10 senior appearances, highlighting the intention to expand the player pool and assess emerging talent.

Forward Grace Kuilamu featured for the CommBank Young Matildas during the PacificAus Sports Four Nations Tournament, captaining the side, alongside Indiana Dos Santos, to the title.

Midfielder Adriana Taranto completes her dream 2025 with a first national team call-up. The Western United midfielder only returned from an ACL injury in January, a 10-month turnaround. Taranto helped Western clinch a spot in the final series, but they were ultimately eliminated by Adelaide United.
