The CommBank Matildas are locked in to meet Olympic Gold Medallists, Canada in a two-game series in September, starting off in Brisbane before going to Sydney to play the first football game at the newly opened Allianz Stadium.
Overall, the two teams have met 16 times in women’s football, spanning across FIFA Women's World Cup tournaments and also Olympic Games.
Our first meeting
The two sides first met in an 'A' International Fixture in December of 1987, the Women's World Invitational Tournament in Taiwan hosted the first meeting between the two countries.
Australia would win the game 2-0, playing one another five days later which ended in a 0-0 draw. Australia finished at the top of Group 3 with four wins and one draw in the tournament.

Our first meeting on Australian soil
The first meeting between the two countries on Australian soil came in 1999. Canberra played host to the Australia Cup tie where Australia won 4-3, with goals to Julie Murray, Angela Iannotta, Lisa Casagrande and Anissa Tann all finding the back of the net at Bruce Stadium.
Our first meeting at the FIFA Women's World Cup
Australia and Canada met in their final group stage game of the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup in China. After drawing with Norway and beating Ghana in the opening game, Australia was out for a win against Canada to send them into the knockout stage for the first-ever time.

Australia got off to a less than ideal start, with striker Melissa Tancredi giving Canada the lead in the fixture. The side took the lead into the break before Collette McCallum would find the equaliser for Australia in the 53rd minute to keep the Matildas' hopes of progressing in the tournament alive.

Christine Sinclair, the current all-time leading goalscorer in the world, found the go-ahead goal for Canada in the 85th minute and it looked to be that the Matildas would once again just miss out on a spot in the quarter-finals, however, skipper Cheryl Salisbury would find the equaliser in the dying minutes of the game, with Australia finishing second in the group, just one point ahead of Canada.
A number of familiar faces were on the bench in the historic win, with Clare Polkinghorne and Lydia Williams both unused substitutes in the 2-2 draw against Canada.

Our last meeting at Sydney Football Stadium - 'Allianz Stadium'
The last time Australia hosted Canada on Australian soil came back in 2008 when Australia won 2-1, hosting the side at the old Sydney Football Stadium on 23 May 2008, the site of the brand-new Allianz Stadium.
Amy Chapman and Caitlin Munoz both found the back of the net before halftime to give the hosts a 2-0 lead going into the break, Canada clawed a goal back through Kara Lang in the 55th minute, but were unable to find the equaliser.

Clare Polkinghorne, Lydia Williams, Tameka Yallop and Kyah Simon were all featured in the win. The game marked a farewell match for the Matildas before they departed for the 2008 AFC Asian Cup in Vietnam
Our last meeting - Olympic Games Rio 2016
The last meeting between the two countries came at the Olympic Games in Rio, with Australia defeated 2-0 in their opening match by Canada, who went on to claim their second straight bronze medal.
Janine Beckie opened the scoring in the game after just 20 seconds of play - the fastest goal in Olympics history. Canada was then reduced to 10 players after a straight red card for Shelina Zadorsky.

Beckie had a chance to double Canada's advantage in the second half from the spot, however, Lydia Williams would save the attempt.
Sinclair would eventually double the lead in the 80th minute. Canada went on to win the bronze medal, beating Brazil 2-1.
