Michelle Heyman signs new deal with Canberra United

Michelle Heyman has signed a new contract with Canberra United, which will see the striker continue her stay in the nation's capital, extending her contract at the club for the 2024/25 campaign.

The striker, who has made 155 appearances for the club and scored 98 goals in green, will hope to add to her goal tally that saw her become the first player to score 100 goals in the Liberty A-League.

Heyman's 2023/24 season saw her break the single-season record for most goal involvements with 22 to her name, finding the back of the net 17 times in the season and claiming the Golden Boot.

The striker's resurgence for Canberra saw her earn her first national team call-up in five years, after announcing her retirement in 2019. Heyman went on to score a goal on her return to international duty, and then followed it up with four goals against Uzbekistan at Marvel Stadium to help Australia qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Heyman talked about the contract renewal, "I am excited to be continuing my football journey with Canberra United, a club that is incredibly close to my heart. The club is special to me, and I have enjoyed every minute of my career with Canberra. I am feeling incredibly good, physically and mentally, and am ready to hit the ground running in the new season." she told canberraunited.com.au.

“Playing in Canberra, and in front of our amazing supporters, has been up there with some of the best highlights of my career. I have made many memories playing for Canberra United and am looking forward to creating many more with Ant, the coaching and backroom staff, my teammates, and the fans.”

This upcoming 2024/25 season will see Canberra United welcome a new manager in Antoni Jagarinec, after being an assistant coach at the club for a number of seasons and taking over the role after Njegosh Popovich ended his time with Canberra after 40 games in charge.
