Adelaide United 1 – Melbourne City 3
Melbourne City continued their undefeated start to the season with a 3-1 victory over Adelaide United.
Mariana Speckmaier gave City the lead in the first minute before an unfortunate own goal levelled things up. From that point onwards, though, it was all City. They regained the lead in the lead-up to half-time before a return goal from Holly McNamara helped the defending premiers to three points.
Laura Hughes and Leah Davidson both started in midfield for City. Karly Roestbakken, Bryleeh Henry and Holly McNamara all came off the bench in the second half, the latter two combining for the final goal.
Matilda McNamara was suspended for Adelaide after the red card that she accrued last week.
Western Sydney Wanderers 1 – 1 Perth Glory
A late penalty meant that Perth Glory rescued a point against Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Glory had the majority of the chances throughout the game but were unable to find the breakthrough. When Amy Harrison scored direct from a free kick in the 85th minute, the home side would have thought they had secured the victory. However, the Glory equalised deep in stoppage time thanks to a Kelli Brown penalty, and took a point back to Perth.
Wellington Phoenix 2-0 Sydney FC
Defending champions Sydney FC finished Round 7 bottom of the table after falling to a 2-0 defeat to the Phoenix.
Sydney had the better of the first half but could not put away their chances. After a 45-minute delay due to weather, the second half had an entirely different tempo and the Phoenix were able to capitalise. Grace Jale scored her first of the season before Zoe McMeeken’s header – her first goal in the competition – sealed the result.
Newcastle Jets 1 – 6 Brisbane Roar
The Brisbane Roar proved that they are real title contenders with a 6-1 thrashing of the Newcastle Jets.
Youngster Grace Kuilamu scored in the second minute to give Brisbane the best possible start. Newcastle stalwart Cassidy Davis equalised, but from there, it was all Brisbane. Tamar Levin and Momo Hayashi scored amongst a stunning hat-trick to Laini Freier - twin sister of Sharn Freier - in her first-ever start in the competition, helping the visitors hit the Jets for six.
Sharn Freier played the full match for Brisbane and assisted two of her twin’s goals. Tameka Yallop was unavailable for the Roar after picking up a knock during the week.
Tash Prior, meanwhile, played the full match for Newcastle.

Canberra United 0 – 2 Melbourne Victory
Melbourne Victory made light work of a tricky away day, defeating Canberra United 2-0.
Nicki Flannery scored against her old club within minutes, before Sara D’Appolonia doubled their lead before the break. The second half was more even but Canberra were not able to ever really get going, and Victory were relatively comfortable winners.
Alex Chidiac started and played the full match for Victory. Emily Gielnik was unavailable, with Victory not providing the reason why.
Michelle Heyman started and played the full match for Canberra.

Central Coast Mariners 1 – 3 Western United
Western United have snapped out of last week’s poor performance with a 3-1 victory over the Central Coast Mariners.
The first half threatened to produce a second scoreless draw between these two teams for the season, as both front lines struggled to hit the target. However, in the second half, the floodgates opened. CommBank Young Matilda Kahli Johnson scored a quickfire brace, before a stunning free kick from Grace Maher made it three.
Annalise Rasmussen got a goal back for the Mariners but it proved to be little but a consolation as Western United secured a much-needed victory.
Jess Nash started and played the full match for the Mariners, while Chloe Lincoln and Chloe Logarzo did the same for Western United.
