Western Sydney Wanderers 1 – 1 Newcastle Jets

A goal within the first minute of the game earned the Western Sydney Wanderers a point at home against the Newcastle Jets.

CommBank Young Matilda Talia Younis scored early in the game to give the home side the advantage. The Jets grew into the match and were rewarded when Melina Ayres equalised in the 78th minute. Despite piling on the pressure late, they could not find the winner.

The result means that the Jets are five points away from the finals race with five games remaining, while the Wanderers are six points away with four games remaining.

Natasha Prior started and played the full game for the Jets.

Brisbane Roar 0 – 4 Sydney FC

Sydney FC broke the shackles of a disappointing season in spectacular fashion, defeating the Brisbane Roar 4-0.

Willa Pearson became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the competition when she came on to score in the second half. Mackenzie Hawkesby, Riley Tanner and Skye Halmarick were also on the scoresheet for the Sky Blues. The result does not quite lift Sydney off the bottom of the table, but gives them a much-needed boost.

Chloe Lincoln started in goals for Brisbane, while Sharn Freier, Tameka Yallop and Grace Kuilamu are all unavailable with injury.

Perth Glory 1 – 0 Canberra United

Perth Glory continued their fantastic home record when they defeated Canberra United 1-0.

It was a game of few chances until a corner from Susan Phonsongkham proved effective in the second half, ricocheting into the back of the net off a Canberra player. The result keeps Perth well and truly in finals contention. Canberra remain in third, but with teams around them having a game in hand, are in danger of slipping out of a tight top six.

Michelle Heyman started and played the full game for Canberra.

Wellington Phoenix 1 – 2 Central Coast Mariners

The Central Coast Mariners overcame extremely windy conditions in Wellington to defeat the home side 2-1.

CommBank Young Matilda Peta Trimis scored a stunning free kick to give the Mariners the lead. Wellington equalised, before another Young Matilda, Avaani Prakash, produced a wonderful assist for Tamar Levin to score what proved to be the winner.

The Phoenix missed their chance to go top of the table with the defeat, while the Mariners pushed themselves back into fifth. Izzy Gomez played the full game for the Mariners against her old club.

Melbourne Victory 0 – 0 Melbourne City

For only the second time in the competition’s history, the Melbourne Derby ended scoreless between Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City.

City looked the more likely to score, and had the ball in the back of the net from the boot of Bryleeh Henry in the first half - only for it to be ruled out for offside. Victory, meanwhile, created opportunities with their high press but could not capitalise. The result sees Victory drop out of the top six, while City remain three points clear on top of the table.

Henry, Holly McNamara, Karly Roestbakken and Alexia Apostolakis all started for City.
