Matildas at Home Review: Kuilamu scores in Brisbane win

Round 6 of the A-League Women saw upsets and huge derbies as teams began to settle into one of the busiest parts of the season.

Read our review of all the Matildas at Home action below.

Melbourne Victory 1 - 3 Canberra United

Canberra caused a huge upset in Melbourne, coming from behind to defeat Melbourne Victory 3-1.

Victory hit the lead inside four minutes thanks to an own goal, and things seemed to be going well and truly to plan. However, the game soon changed. Nanako Sasaki equalised before the break, before a Sasha Grove goal - and a late own goal - saw the visitors walk away with three points.

Michelle Heyman started and played the full game for Canberra.

Melbourne City 1 - 0 Wellington Phoenix

Melbourne City got the job done against the Wellington Phoenix, withstanding large amounts of pressure to secure a 1-0 victory.

The Phoenix had the better of the game, with significantly more shots and opportunities throughout the 90 minutes. They just couldn't find the back of the net, and it cost them, with City captain Rebekah Stott popping up late with a headed goal from a set piece to steal the victory for the defending Premiers.

Holly McNamara and Alexia Apostolakis started for City, with Karly Roestbakken listed as an unused substitute. Bryleeh Henry remains unavailable.

Adelaide United 1 - 3 Brisbane Roar

The Brisbane Roar were back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Adelaide United.

The Roar struck first through Grace Kuilamu. Two goals from Dutch international Bente Jansen gave them a lead that the home side were not able to overcome, despite a stunning goal for Erin Healy.

Kuilamu, Chloe Lincoln, Sharn Freier and Tameka Yallop all started for Brisbane. However, there was concern for Yallop, who was forced off the pitch with a hamstring injury in the first half.

Western Sydney Wanderers 0 - 0 Sydney FC

The Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC played out an entertaining 0-0 draw on Sunday.

Both sides had opportunities to win it, particularly in a frenetic last 20 minutes. However, the fierce rivals will have to be satisfied with a point. Sydney still haven't lost a derby since 2019, but the Wanderers showed that they could go a long way this season.

Central Coast Mariners 4 - 1 Newcastle Jets

The Newcastle Jets are yet to get their hands on the A-League Women F3 Derby trophy - and now, they've got a mountain to climb this season after falling 4-1 to their rivals on Sunday.

The Jets scored first through Lauren Allan in the first half, but from there, it was all one-way traffic. Annalise Rasmussen scored a brace either side of half-time before Tamar Levin and debutant Eliza Familton made it four in the second half.

Natasha Prior played the full game for Newcastle while Isabel Gomez had a very positive game for the Mariners in midfield, playing the full match.
