A penalty scored by Holly McNamara could not prevent Melbourne City from being defeated for the first time in 30 home and away games when a Michelle Heyman goal helped lift Canberra United to a 2-1 victory.
Elsewhere, Isabel Gomez was on the scoresheet as the Central Coast Mariners defeated the Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1.

Perth Glory 1 - 0 Wellington Phoenix
Perth Glory rode their luck, but the end result was their first win of the season, defeating the Wellington Phoenix 1-0.
The Phoenix had nearly 60% possession and had 16 total shots, but could not find a way through a resilient Glory. It meant that Susan Phonsongkham's 75th-minute 'Olimpico' goal was enough to see the home side secure their second win of the season.
Newcastle Jets 3 - 0 Brisbane Roar
The Newcastle Jets bounced back comprehensively after last week's F3 Derby defeat, cruising to a 3-0 victory over the Brisbane Roar.
Melina Ayres, Kelli Brown and India Breier were on the scoresheet for a Jets side who were clinical in front of goal. Despite having a mountain of chances, the Roar were unable to get a goal back and had to leave Newcastle without a point.
Natasha Prior was a huge part of Newcastle's defence, while Sharn Freier, Grace Kuilamu and Chloe Lincoln all started for the Roar. Tameka Yallop is unavailable after picking up a significant hamstring injury last week.
Melbourne Victory 1 - 0 Adelaide United
Melbourne Victory did just enough to secure three points at home, defeating Adelaide United 1-0.
Rachel Lowe scored early in the second half for Victory, and the Reds were unable to find their way back into the game. The result means that last season's high flyers find themselves in tenth, with only one win to their name in five games. Victory, by contrast, secured second place with the win.
Canberra United 2 - 1 Melbourne City
Canberra United became the first team in 30 home and away games to defeat Melbourne City, delighting home fans with a 2-1 victory.
An even first-half contest burst into life in the second. Emma Hawkins and Michelle Heyman scored for Canberra in quick succession to give them a two goal advantage. When Holly McNamara pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, City surged forward in search of an equaliser - but for the first time in nearly two years, they were unable to find it in a league fixture.
Heyman started for Canberra before being substituted off in second-half stoppage time. McNamara and Alexia Apostolakis started for City, while Karly Roestbakken was a second-half substitute.
Western Sydney Wanderers 1 - 2 Central Coast Mariners
The Central Coast Mariners continued their winning ways with a 2-1 victory over the Western Sydney Wanderers.
Isabella Coco-Di Sipio scored her first goal in the competition to give the Mariners the lead, before Isabel Gomez doubled their advantage before the break. A fantastic second-half goal for Talia Younis made things interesting, but the defending champions held on to secure their first three points away from home this season.
Gomez started for the Mariners. This match also saw the return of Chloe Berryhill to the A-League Women, who started for the Wanderers.
