Perth Glory 1 – 1 Sydney FC

A goal to Perth Glory’s returning striker Caitlin Doeglas was the headline as Sydney FC brought a point home from Perth.

Doeglas last played for Perth in 2021 before her re-signing was announced on Friday. She was thrown immediately into the starting XI, and the gamble paid off – her goal opened the scoring and gave the Glory the lead.

Sydney FC’s Lucy Johnson scored a long-range effort for the second week in a row to equalise just before half-time, and that is where the score remained for the rest of the match. The point lifted Sydney off the bottom of the ladder but – concerningly for the defending champions – they still only have six points from 10 games.

Canberra United 2 – 1 Western United

Canberra United came from behind for the second week in a row to defeat Western United 2-1.

Catherine Zimmerman opened the scoring for Western United early in the first half. However, Canberra soon hit back – with an own goal caused by the pressure of Michelle Heyman, who squared things up before Sophia Christopherson’s early second-half strike proved the winner.

Heyman started the match for Canberra before being withdrawn late in the second half. Meanwhile, Chloe Logarzo played 70 minutes for Western United and picked up the assist on Western's goal, while Chloe Lincoln was an unused substitute.

Newcastle Jets 0 – 2 Melbourne Victory

Melbourne Victory bounced back after a midweek defeat to overcome the Newcastle Jets 2-0.

Emily Gielnik scored early to go equal-top of the golden boot race, while Rachel Lowe’s first goal of the season later in the first half would be enough for Victory.

Gielnik and Alex Chidiac both started the match for Victory. Tash Prior was unavailable for the Newcastle Jets.

Melbourne City 2 – 0 Brisbane Roar

Melbourne City picked up a vital three points on Saturday night, going four points clear on top of the table after defeating second-placed Brisbane Roar 2-0.

Leticia McKenna scored an early brace to give City the lead and the defending premiers were good enough to hold on to it, despite consistent pressure from the Roar. Tameka Yallop had the chance to halve the deficit before half-time but saw her penalty saved by Malena Mieres, with Roar struggling to create clear-cut opportunities after that.

Laura Hughes and Leah Davidson both started in midfield for City, while Holly McNamara and Karly Roestbakken came off the bench. Bryleeh Henry was unavailable due to displaying symptoms of concussion.

Sharn Freier and Tameka Yallop both started and played the full match for the Roar.

Adelaide United 2 – 1 Wellington Phoenix

Adelaide United went three points clear in fourth place when they defeated the Wellington Phoenix 2-1.

The Reds found themselves two goals to the good late in the first half thanks to goals to Emily Condon and Chelsie Dawber. The Phoenix came out pushing in the second half – and got their reward via an own goal – but weren’t able to force a second to walk away with a point.

Matilda McNamara started and played the full match in defence for Adelaide.

Western Sydney Wanderers 1 – 3 Central Coast Mariners

The Central Coast Mariners got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Brooke Nunn and Tess Quilligan got scoring underway in the first half for the Mariners before Bianca Galic’s strike from the penalty spot made it three. Olivia Price scored a consolation for the Wanderers in stoppage time – their only shot on target for the game.

Jessika Nash started and played the full match at centre-back.
