Melbourne City 1 – 3 Newcastle Jets
The Newcastle Jets defeated Melbourne City for the first time ever on Friday evening, walking away 3-1 victors.
Kelli Brown scored first for the Jets before Holly McNamara equalised from the penalty spot. The visitors were clinical after the break, making City pay for failing to convert their chances, taking the lead through Libby Copus-Brown and then extending it via Kiwi international Charlotte Lancaster.
Natasha Prior was at the heart of defence for the Jets in their historic win. Holly McNamara, Alexia Apostolakis and Karly Roestbakken all started for City while Bryleeh Henry was a second-half substitute.
Western Sydney Wanderers 1 – 1 Brisbane Roar
Brisbane Roar scored a late equaliser to save a point against the Western Sydney Wanderers.
Ella Buchanan scored what appeared to be the winner in the 83rd minute as the Wanderers attempted to do the double over the Roar. However, Dutch national Bente Jansen equalised deep in stoppage time as Brisbane found an extra gear.
Chloe Berryhill started for the Wanderers but was forced off late in the game with what looked to be a serious knee injury. Chloe Lincoln and Sharn Freier started for the Roar, while Tameka Yallop and Grace Kuilamu are unavailable through injury.
Adelaide United 2 – 1 Melbourne Victory
Adelaide United defeated Melbourne Victory for the first time since February 2022 to lift the annual Pride Cup trophy in Adelaide on Saturday.
The Reds took the lead in the first half, with Fiona Worts scoring her first goal of the season on the back of a fantastic assist from Adriana Taranto. Victory hit back in first-half stoppage time, with American Kennedy White making use of a rebound. It would be former Victory player Paige Zois who would have the final say, with the Melbourne junior scoring an olimpico goal in the second half that would ultimately prove to be the winner.
Adriana Taranto started for the Reds and was incredibly influential on the right-hand side of their attack.
Canberra United 0 – 2 Wellington Phoenix
The Wellington Phoenix picked up a vital three points away from home when they defeated Canberra United 2-0.
Canberra kept themselves in the game despite a first-half red card to CommBank Young Matilda Tegan Bertolissio. However, the pressure on ten players eventually told. Zoe Benson broke through with a goal in the 86th minute for the Phoenix before young sensation Pia Vlok sealed the result in stoppage time.
The result sees the Phoenix rise to seventh – only one point away from a top six place – while Canberra remain second. Michelle Heyman started for Canberra.
Central Coast Mariners 1 – 1 Perth Glory
Perth Glory gained a good point against the defending champions, Central Coast Mariners, on Sunday to finish the round on a high.
Susan Phonsongkham scored a fantastic volley in the first half to give the visitors the lead against the run of play. The Mariners had ample chances, however, and it would be Peta Trimis who would eventually convert – the CommBank Young Matilda scoring an incredible olimpico goal from the right side with her right foot. Both sides pushed for the win, but had to settle for the points to be shared.
Isabel Gomez returned to the Mariners' side after her suspension last week and was typically busy in midfield.
