The latest Sydney Derby is shaping up as a kind of last chance saloon as both sides hope to keep their slim hopes of finals football alive.

Sydney FC have won three of their last five games and needs to win all their remaining three matches to have any chance of sneaking into the top six. Opposing them is a Wanderers side who have shown glimpses of real quality this season, particularly through their CommBank Young Matildas such as Sienna Saveska. Not only is this match vitally important on the pitch is also doubles as the annual Pride Cup game between the two sides.

Victory remains hot on City’s heels, five points behind them but with a game in hand. It is likely that they will require all three points against Adelaide to keep up that challenge.

The Reds’ focus, meanwhile, will be more on overcoming Victory in second. A win in this match would put them above Victory – at least temporarily – and they will hope that a perfect record for the remainder of the season would be enough to earn a top two place that automatically qualifies them for the semi-finals.

Alex Chidiac, Alana Murphy and golden boot leader Emily Gielnik will be available for Victory.

Matilda McNamara will have her hands full in defence dealing with Victory’s attack.
