10th-placed Sydney FC are in desperate need of goals and points as they host Adelaide United on Friday evening.

Sydney are winless in four games, and – more worryingly – scoreless in that time as well. They have the opportunity to turn that around against a Reds side who started the season slowly, but have begun to find form in the last few weeks.

Adelaide come into this fixture looking for a third consecutive win that could lift them into the top six. Three points away from home against Sydney would be a statement win that could set up their second half of the season. Adriana Taranto will be available for the Reds.

Perth Glory v Western Sydney Wanderers

Date: Friday, 9 January
Venue: Sam Kerr Football Centre
Kickoff: 7pm local, 10pm AEDT

Perth Glory will attempt to defend their unbeaten home record this season when they host the Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday evening.

The Glory have been in fantastic form, with three consecutive 1-0 wins at home – only broken up by defeat to Melbourne City in Melbourne – seeing them sit in fifth on the table. They will again rely on their sturdy defence to help them over the line against the Wanderers.

The Wanderers travel to Perth off the back of an impressive point against Canberra, but will need to start picking up the wins if they are to lift themselves from the foot of the table and towards the top six.

Wellington Phoenix v Melbourne City

Date: Saturday, 10 January
Venue: Porirua Park
Kickoff: 4pm local, 2pm AEDT
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+

The Wellington Phoenix will be hoping to defeat Melbourne City for the first time in the club’s history when they host them in Wellington on Saturday.

Wellington have always been strong at home and will hope that the green shoots that they have seen throughout the season come to fruition. They will have to do so without Nepal international ‘Samba’, however, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury last week.

Melbourne City look to be hitting top form after their defeat to Canberra United before Christmas and will no doubt be keen to continue that in Wellington. Holly McNamara is equal top of the golden boot race and will be available for this game, as will Alexia Apostolakis, Karly Roestbakken and Bryleeh Henry, after making her return from injury last week.

Newcastle Jets v Central Coast Mariners

The second F3 Derby of the season is another crucial one for both sides, as the finals ambitions of both the Newcastle Jets and Central Coast Mariners are anything but secure.

The Jets come into the game off the back of three consecutive defeats, dropping them out of the top six for the first time this season. They will be counting on a derby day at home to help them lift to a much-needed three points. Natasha Prior will be available for the Jets.

The Central Coast Mariners will have to contend with the derby without talisman Isabel Gomez, who is suspended after accumulating five yellow cards. They’ll hope to draw upon the goals of equal golden boot leader Annalise Rasmussen to help them over the line and once again take home the coveted F3 Derby trophy.

Melbourne Victory v Brisbane Roar

Melbourne Victory are out for revenge after their round one defeat when they host the Brisbane Roar on Sunday.

After a heavy early-season schedule, Victory are coming into this game well rested and will hope to take advantage of a Brisbane Roar side nursing several important injuries. Victory are currently third on the table after 10 games played.

The Roar showed they can have multiple goal-scoring contributors in their draw against the Phoenix last week and will continue to hope that their young players stand up in the absence of Tameka Yallop and now Grace Kuilamu, who the club confirmed this week ruptured her ACL on New Year’s Eve. Chloe Lincoln and Sharn Freier will continue to be available for the Roar.
