Football fans will have their opportunity to spread the cheer this weekend, with an A-League Women's matchday filled with December derbies and in-form internationals.

Football fans in the nation's capital will very much be in the gift-giving mood on Thursday night, when their side Canberra United open the round against Brisbane Roar.
After the Roar supporters threw toys onto the pitch for charity last weekend, Canberra have now teamed up with the Salvation Army, to create their own initiative. All spectators at the match will have the chance to donate presents and toys, with decorated trees placed outside every entrance to Viking Park.
On the pitch, both sides remain winless after three matches, hoping to regain control of their season.
Commonwealth Bank Matildas teammates, Karly Roestbakken in green, along with Roar duo Katrina Gorry and Jamilla Rankin, have started the campaign with a combined five single-goal defeats from five matches. To emphasise how unlucky both sides have been, all of those matches saw the winning goal converted after the 80th minute.
Boxing Day is headlined by the return of the Melbourne Derby, with a high-flying Melbourne Victory side looking to double the misery on cross-town neighbours Melbourne City, after recently coming from behind to beat the citizens, on their home patch.
The navy blue outfit remain top of the league, with national team trio Kyra Cooney-Cross, Courtney Nevin and Alex Chidiac starring alongside a host of world-class internationals. The light blue side of Melbourne can also boast about an impressive start to the season with two convincing victories, only dampened by a slip-up against their greatest rival. Experienced defender Emma Checker will look to weather the Victory storm and help her side even the derby ledger.

A Monday night double-header will showcase a number of in-form Commonwealth Bank Matildas, with Sydney FC hosting neighbours Western Sydney Wanderers, before Wellington Phoenix play a resurgent Newcastle Jets.
The Sky Blues seem to have already staked their claim for a consecutive Premiership, with Australian trio Remy Siemsen, Jada Whyman and Jess Nash, arguably amongst the league's top performers from the opening month of matches. The Wanderers have been boosted since the two sides met, less than three weeks ago, with prolific teenage striker Bryleeh Henry returning to the starting side.
Meanwhile, Wellington will be hoping to bank on a boisterous anti-Novocastrian crowd, with the New Zealanders taking their home game against Newcastle to the home of their traditional rivals, the Central Coast. Emily Van Egmond continues to pull the strings for the women in gold, with Ash Wilson's side unlucky to leave Blacktown without three points last weekend.
New Years Day may well be the first glimpse we get of Dylan Holmes back in red, with Adelaide United facing the undefeated Perth Glory. The West Australians will need to regain that early-season momentum, after match postponements culminated in a three-week break between matches.
