All eyes will be on the Brisbane Roar this weekend as they hope to continue their eye-catching form from the previous two games.
Elsewhere, Sydney FC and Melbourne City will play out the second Grand Final rematch of the season, while a new year Distance Derby promises to bring the intrigue.

Western United v Newcastle Jets
Date: Friday, 3 January
Kickoff: 7pm AEDT
Venue: Ironbark Fields
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+
Tickets: Ticketek
Western United will be hoping to bounce back after the largest defeat in their history when they take on the Newcastle Jets on Friday evening.
The home side will be heavily motivated by proving that last week’s defeat to the Roar was nothing more than a blip. They have already bounced back once this season – defeating the Central Coast Mariners the week after the Wanderers put five past them – and will be confident they can do the same on Friday.
The Jets, meanwhile, were lucky to get away with a scoreless draw against Canberra United last week and will be hoping to find a way through a potentially vulnerable Western United. They have plenty of talent, but have been their own worst enemy at times this season – the question will be whether they will be on song on Friday.
Chloe Logarzo came off the pitch early in the second half with a minor ankle injury last week. There is no word yet on how severe the injury is, however she has been included in the extended squad. Chloe Lincoln will be available for Western United in goals.
Natasha Prior will be available for the Newcastle Jets at the heart of defence.

Wellington Phoenix v Perth Glory
Date: Saturday, 4 January
Kickoff: 2pm AEDT
Venue: Porirua Park
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+
Tickets: Flicket
The first Distance Derby of the season sees Perth Glory travel to take on the Wellington Phoenix on Saturday.
The Glory looked set to take a point out of last week’s clash with the Mariners before a late goal denied them. Against the Phoenix, they’ll be hoping to be more clinical in front of goals and remain disciplined in defence to walk away from one of the longest away days in world football with a result.
The Phoenix’s undefeated streak came to an end at the hands of league leaders Melbourne City last week but they were not far outplayed. Similar to their opponents, it is mistakes at both ends that they will need to eliminate from their game if they are to pick up a result.
Central Coast Mariners v Adelaide United
Date: Saturday, 4 January
Kickoff: 5pm AEDT
Venue: Woy Woy Oval
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+
Tickets: Ticketek
The Central Coast Mariners welcome Adelaide United to Woy Woy as both teams fight to remain in the top six race.
The Mariners are coming off the back of a win, and a draw midweek against Melbourne City. They’ve shown themselves to be a steady team that will not give much away. The question is, can they be more creative and clinical up top, particularly coming off a short turnaround into this game?
Adelaide had a number of opportunities against the Wanderers before they finally broke through in the second half. When everyone is on song, they are incredibly difficult to contain. They’ll be hoping they can be more clinical on Saturday against a Mariners team that is unlikely to give them many opportunities.
Jessika Nash will be available for the Mariners while Matilda McNamara will line up for Adelaide. Both CommBank Matildas will be in the heart of defence for their respective sides.
Brisbane Roar v Canberra United
Date: Saturday, 4 January
Kickoff: 6pm AEDT
Venue: Perry Park
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+
Tickets: Ticketek
The Brisbane Roar are the team to watch at the moment – but Canberra United are one of only two teams to beat them this season. Can Canberra repeat the feat this weekend?
The Roar have been scintillating for the past fortnight. A 6-1 win over the Newcastle Jets, followed by an 8-2 mauling of Western United has seen them rise to the top of many people’s must-watch list. If any questions remain, however, it is over a defence that can feel porous at times. Will they be able to nullify Canberra’s threats in their front third?
Canberra have shown signs of being a good team this season but they’ve been inconsistent, and their trademark ability to score goals from nothing hasn’t always been there. If they can hold on for long periods against the Roar, they are always a chance, especially with the likes of Michelle Heyman up top.
Tameka Yallop and Sharn Freier will both be available for Brisbane. Sharn will be hoping to keep up the connection with her twin Laini, after Laini Freier became the first player in competition history to score back-to-back hat-tricks last week.
Heyman will be available for Canberra in her centre-forward role.

Sydney FC v Melbourne City
Date: Sunday, 5 January
Kickoff: 5pm AEDT
Venue: Leichhardt Oval
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+
Tickets: Ticketek
It's not often that a Grand Final rematch is between teams on opposite ends of the ladder, but that is the case this weekend as bottom-place Sydney FC host top-of-the-table Melbourne City.
Sydney are desperate for any result that will give them confidence that they can go on a run of form and escape the quagmire of the season so far. The last time these sides played, in Unite Round, it was Sydney’s best performance of the season – they were unlikely to only get a point from City. If they can replicate that performance they are a real chance on Sunday.
City are coming off a midweek clash against the Mariners where they spurned two penalties to come with a scoreless draw. They have the deepest squad in the competition, and will be able to use those players to their advantage with the quick turnaround. As always for City, the challenge will be to ensure that all of their possession can actually lead to clear-cut chances.
Leah Davidson, Bryleeh Henry, Laura Hughes, Karly Roestbakken and Holly McNamara will all be available for Melbourne City.
Melbourne Victory v Western Sydney Wanderers
Date: Sunday, 5 January
Kickoff: 5pm AEDT
Venue: Home of the Matildas
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+
Tickets: Ticketek
Third-place Melbourne Victory will be hoping to keep pace with the teams on top of the table as they take on the Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday.
Victory have been consistent this season without being entirely convincing. They will have the opportunity to continue their good run of form against the Wanderers, and potentially even end the round on top of the table if other results go their way.
The Wanderers, meanwhile, will be desperate to prove that their victory against Western United a few weeks ago – their only three points this season - was no flash in the pan. They have the talent to challenge anyone but will need to put it together with an interim coach at the helm on Sunday.
Alex Chidiac will be available for Victory on the weekend. Emily Gielnik has missed the last two weeks due to a lower leg injury, and has been named in Victory's extended squad, though it remains to be seen if she will play on Sunday.
