Two teams coming off good wins will face off in the first game of the round.
American strikers Gabby Hollar and Rola Badawiya impressed for Perth last week and will hope to continue that form this time out. They’ll have to be clinical in the face of a Roar team who don’t need many invitations to trouble the scoresheet.
Brisbane will be full of confidence after overcoming preseason title favourites Melbourne Victory last week, but will face an entirely different challenge after the long flight to Perth. Tameka Yallop will hope to start after coming off the bench last week, while Sharn Freier, Grace Kuilamu and Chloe Lincoln can build off their impressive round one performance.
Wellington Phoenix v Canberra United

The Wellington Phoenix play their first game of the season after last week’s bye, taking on Canberra United at home.
The Phoenix turned heads with their preseason signings, including Dutch international Tessa Middag and former Central Coast Mariners championship player Brooke Nunn. New coach Bev Priestman will be hoping to make a positive impression in front of home fans to kick things off.
Canberra United, meanwhile, showed glimpses of quality in their loss to the Jets last week. An early-season win away in New Zealand could quell any doubts about their top-six potential. Michelle Heyman will be their danger player up front.
Melbourne City v Central Coast Mariners

Melbourne City will be out for revenge as they take on the team that knocked them out of last year’s championship race, the Central Coast Mariners.
City were undefeated Premiers last season, but were denied the domestic double at the penultimate hurdle to a last-gasp Isabel Gomez strike. Their star-studded lineup of CommBank Matildas, including Holly McNamara, Laura Hughes, Leah Davidson, and Alexia Apostolakis, will be hoping to enact some revenge and clinch their first three points of the season. Karly Roestbakken and Bryleeh Henry are both unavailable due to injury.
For the Mariners, it’s all about building into the season after a convincing victory over the Reds last week. CommBank Young Matildas Peta Trimis and Avaani Prakash were highly impressive, while Isabel Gomez is expected to play some part after starting from the bench in round one.
Adelaide United v Sydney FC

Adelaide United welcome back star strikers Chelsie Dawber and Fiona Worts to take on Sydney FC as they hope to prove their round one defeat was an outlier.
The Reds generated a number of chances but were unable to breach the Mariners' defence last week. They will hope that their strong team on paper, which includes Melissa and Adriana Taranto, as well as Irish international Erin Healy, can turn that around at home this week.
Sydney FC gave a good account of themselves last week in a tough draw against City and will back themselves to get the win in Adelaide. Their serious young talent, including Amelia Cassar and the newly-crowned youngest A-League Women’s player and CommBank Junior Matilda, Willa Pearson, will hope to impress once more.
Western Sydney Wanderers v Melbourne Victory

Melbourne Victory will be hoping to bounce back against a young Western Sydney Wanderers side in the final game of the round.
The Wanderers had a disappointing start to their season and will be up against a tough team on Sunday. They’ll be hoping their international signings, including Janae Defazio, available this week after returning from international duty, can help lift them to a positive result.
Victory is missing a stack of key players, including Chelsea Blissett, Taylor Ray, Sienna Saveska and Nickoletta Flannery, but still looked strong last week. Tightening up the defence will be key to clinching all three points this time out.
The Newcastle Jets have the bye this weekend.
