A midweek defeat for Melbourne City has opened the door for Wellington Phoenix, Brisbane Roar or Canberra United to take top spot at the end of this weekend.
The biggest match of the round is a top-of-the-table clash between Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar.

Melbourne City 0 – 1 Western Sydney Wanderers
Melbourne City suffered consecutive defeats for the first time in two years, defeated 1-0 by the team that was bottom-of-the-table coming into this fixture, the Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Wanderers held City at arm's length in a game of few chances. The only goal of the game came in the first half, when a Talia Younis corner was deflected in off City player Aideen Keane.
Karly Roestbakken, Alexia Apostolakis and Bryleeh Henry all started for City, while Holly McNamara came on as a first-half substitute.
Sydney FC 1 – 3 Brisbane Roar
Sydney FC head into the weekend bottom of the table after a 3-1 defeat to Brisbane Roar.
A first-half goal to Daisy Brown, followed by a Momo Hayashi brace, saw Brisbane outplay Sydney at Leichhardt Oval. The game extends Sydney’s run without a win to ten, and means that the Roar move to second place.
The Roar’s results are particularly impressive considering the big names on their injury list. Chloe Lincoln started in goals, but confirmation this week that Sharn Freier is out for the season with an ACL injury meant that she joined Tameka Yallop and Grace Kuilamu on the sidelines for this fixture and the foreseeable future.

The Wellington Phoenix will go top of the table for the first time in their history if they can defeat Perth Glory in the Distance Derby on Friday.
The Phoenix have recruited cleverly and have replaced the formidable players on their injury list with equally quality imports. Furthermore, the rise of Kiwi teenager Pia Vlok – selected in her first Football Ferns squad this week – has added a different dimension to their attack. It means that they have started to add wins in Australia to their repertoire, with a positive impact on their ladder position.
The Glory, meanwhile, will need to win to keep touch with an extremely tight top six. They built a good run of form on the back of a formidable defence at home, but their form has wavered in recent week,s and they will see an opportunity to get back on track on one of the longest away trips in world football.

A-League football comes to Shepparton this week as Melbourne Victory host the Newcastle Jets.
It’s an intriguing battle on the pitch. Victory has fallen well short of season expectations, finding themselves out of the top six. A win against the Jets could be the catalyst they need to turn their season around.
For their part, the Jets have been up and down this season. They defeated Melbourne City for the first time in their history but have lost on six other occasions, finding themselves in ninth and three points outside the top six. They’ll hope a defence led by Tash Prior can help them to a key away three points.

Melbourne City host Brisbane Roar on the back of two consecutive defeats, and with top spot in the league at stake.
City have now lost four times this season but will back themselves to hit back in front of their home fans. Alexia Apostolakis, Holly McNamara, Bryleeh Henry and Karly Roestbakken will all be available.
The Roar, meanwhile, have been hit hard by injury but keep finding new ways to win. They’ll hope their back-to-the-wall momentum can carry them to victory over the defending premiers. Chloe Lincoln will be available to start while Sharn Freier, Tameka Yallop and Grace Kuilamu are all injured.

Sydney FC are in desperate need of a win when they host Canberra United on Sunday.
The Sky Blues are now three points away from escaping the bottom of the table, and can close the gap on rivals Wanderers with a win here. However, it won’t be easy against a Canberra United side who have shown scintillating form at different times throughout the campaign. Pending results, Canberra could go top of the table with a win of their own.
Michelle Heyman will be available to lead the line for Canberra.
Western Sydney Wanderers v Adelaide United
Date: Sunday, February 8
Venue: Wanderers Football Park
Kickoff: 7pm AEDT
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+
The Western Sydney Wanderers will be hoping to make it four wins in a row when they host Adelaide United on Sunday evening.
After having a torrid run of form to start the season, the Wanderers have come to life in recent weeks, defeating the Central Coast Mariners, Sydney FC and Melbourne City. A win here could see them looking up to a top-six race that seemed unlikely only a few weeks ago.
Adelaide is hoping for at least the point that would see them remain in the top six for another week, or three that could see them end the round as high as second. Adriana Taranto will be available for the Reds.
