CommBank Matildas were back in action in England over the weekend as the FA WSL got back underway after a winter break.
Elsewhere, Winonah Heatley's AS Roma were defeated in the Italian Super Cup by Juventus.

England
Manchester United and Arsenal played out a scoreless draw to start the round. The Gunners dominated the game – particularly after United went down to 10 players, with 25 minutes remaining – but could not find a breakthrough. Steph Catley started for Arsenal, while Caitlin Foord was a second-half substitute.
Arsenal paid tribute to Kyra Cooney-Cross during the game, who is currently in Australia after her mother, Jess, was diagnosed with Stage 4 cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). The team wore shirts honouring Cooney-Cross before the game, and fans applauded at the 32-minute mark – Cooney-Cross’ number at Arsenal.
Tottenham Hotspur defeated Leicester City 1-0. An own goal in the first-half was the difference between the two sides. The result sees Spurs move to fourth, equal on points with Arsenal in third. Clare Hunt started for Tottenham and kept a clean sheet, while Emily van Egmond started up top for the Foxes. Charli Grant remains unavailable for Spurs with a knee injury.
Manchester City eased past Everton 2-0. Keroline and Vivianne Miedema were the goalscorers on either side of the half-time break. Clare Wheeler started in midfield for the Toffees, while Mary Fowler is still unavailable for City as she inches closer to a competitive return.
It was a five-star performance for Chelsea as they defeated West Ham 5-0. Lauren James, Alyssa Thompson and Sandy Baltimore were amongst the goalscorers as the Blues made a statement to begin 2026. Ellie Carpenter started for Chelsea, while Sam Kerr was a second-half substitute. Katrina Gorry started for the Hammers.
Aston Villa came from behind to defeat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1. Fuka Tsunoda scored in the first-half for Brighton before a quickfire Villa double to Rachel Daly and Kirsty Hanson saw Villa leave with the points. Charlie Rule started in defence for Brighton.
The round ended as it started, with a scoreless draw – this time between Liverpool and London City Lionesses. Neither side was able to find the breakthrough in a game of few chances, but it was a promising point for bottom-placed Liverpool. Alanna Kennedy was an unused substitute for the Lionesses.
France
Lyon hit Saint-Etienne for six in the French Cup, advancing to the Round of 16 with a 6-0 victory. Teagan Micah was an unused substitute.
Italy
Juventus lifted the Italian Super Cup, defeating AS Roma 2-1. Cristiana Girelli scored a late winner for Juve to see them do the double over Roma in the Cups this season. Winonah Heatley was an unused substitute for Roma.
