Matildas Abroad Review: Nevin and Siemsen provide assists for Leicester City in a big win for the Foxes

Courtney Nevin and Remy Siemsen provided assists for Leicester City as they move up the table and out of the relegation zone in the WSL.

England

Emily Gielnik's Aston Villa narrowly went down 3-2 to ladder leaders Manchester United. Villa took a 2-1 lead going into the break after a brace to Rachel Daly. 

United showed why they occupy first on the ladder, making it 2-2 through Nikita Parris before Millie Turner scored the matchwinner in the third minute of stoppage time in the second half. 

Meanwhile, Courtney Nevin and Remy Siemsen's Leicester City recorded a big 4-0 win over Liverpool, which saw the Foxes move to 10th on the table and will help their chances of staying in the WSL for next season. 

Josie Green opened the scoring just 15 minutes into the game, with Siemsen finding the ball from a Leicester corner and playing it to an unmarked Green at the top of the box.

Carrie Jones doubled the hosts' advantage just six minutes later to give the Foxes a 2-0 lead going into the break. 

Nevin then added her name to the assist list, sending in a perfect corner to find Ashleigh Plumptre to make it 3-0. The defender pulled the strings on Leicester's next goal, sending in a deep cross to find Missy Goodwin who scored the fourth of the afternoon in stoppage time.

Kyah Simon's Tottenham Hotspur was held to a 2-2 draw against Lydia Williams' Brighton & Hove Albion, with both sides taking away a crucial point.

The Seagulls opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Elisabeth Terland, but Spurs found the equaliser almost immediately with Beth England making it 1-1. 

Brighton re-took the lead after Lee Guem-min found the back of the net from outside the box. England stepped up once again to seal the equaliser, ending the game 2-2. 

Lastly, Mary Fowler, Hayley Raso and Alanna Kennedy's Manchester City made it back-to-back wins in the WSL after a 4-1 win over Reading FC.

The Royals, who sit at the bottom of the table, opened the scoring through Sanne Troelsgaard Nielsen in the opening minute of the game. 


Manchester City found the response before the break with Chloe Kelly and Khadija Shaw getting their names on the scoresheet to send the hosts into the break with a 2-1 lead. 

Goals to Lauren Hemp and Steph Houghton in the second half sealed the victory for Gareth Taylor's side. Raso and Fowler both came off the bench in the victory, while Kennedy did not make an appearance in the matchday squad. 

USA

Moving over to the USA, Alex Chidiac's Racing Louisville made it four consecutive draws to start the season being held to a 2-2 draw against OL Reign, despite taking a 2-0 lead into the break.

Goals to Paige Monaghan and Savannah DeMelo gave Racing a two-goal advantage heading into the break. OL Reign clawed back a goal from the spot through Megan Rapinoe. Racing's task was made that bit harder when they went down to 10 after a second yellow card to DeMelo. 

Jordyn Huitema scored the equaliser in the 90th minute, handing Racing their fourth draw of the season. Chidiac did not make an appearance off the bench.  

Meanwhile, Emily Van Egmond's San Diego Wave FC went down 3-1 to Orlando Pride, with Wave facing their first home defeat of the season. 

Wave opened the scoring through Jaedyn Shaw, scoring her third of the season. Pride took a 2-1 lead going into the break thanks to Mikayla Cluff and Haley McCutcheon. 

Pride took a 3-1 lead after Adriana scored her first goal for the club, helping Orlando to their first win of the season. Van Egmond did not appear in the matchday squad for Wave. 

Sweden

In Sweden, Aivi Luik's BK Häcken made it four wins to start the season after a 1-0 win over IFK Norrköping. The lone goal of the game came from Anna Anvegård in the second half. Luik played the full game in defence.

Teagan Micah's FC Rosengård is back to winning ways after a 3-1 win over IF Brommapojkarna, making it back-to-back wins after a slow start to the season. 

A double to Karina Karia Lundin and a spot kick from Sofie Bredgaard gave Rosengård the victory. Micah did not appear in the matchday squad. 

Meanwhile, Clare Polkinghorne, Katrina Gorry and Charli Grant's Vittsjö GIK recorded a 2-1 win over KIF Örebro DFF.

Vittsjö opened the scoring just three minutes into the game through Hanna Margit Ebba Ekengren and doubled their advantage just before the break with Nellie Persson adding her name to the scoresheet. 

Örebro clawed back a goal in the second half but was unable to find the equaliser as Vittsjö GIK sealed their second win of the season.

Gorry remained on the bench in the victory, while Polkinghorne and Grant did not appear in the matchday squad. 

Norway

Our last stop takes us to Norway, where Tameka Yallop and Larissa Crummer's SK Brann bounced back from their first defeat of the season with a 3-1 win over Stabæk, Crummr and Yallop did not appear in the matchday squad for the victory.
