Perth Glory 2 – 3 Brisbane Roar

The Brisbane Roar secured another high-scoring victory, overcoming the Glory in Perth 3-2.

Grace Kuilamu scored in the first half before American striker Rola Badawiya equalised for Perth with a stunning strike from outside the penalty area. While a late Ella Lincoln goal gave the Glory some hope, a brace from Dutch national Bente Jansen early in the second half gave the Roar an ultimately unassailable lead.

Kuilamu and Sharn Freier both started for the Roar. Freier assisted both of Jansen’s goals. Chloe Lincoln also started between the sticks, while Tameka Yallop was a second-half substitute as she continues to build her minutes after a hamstring injury.

Wellington Phoenix 1 – 1 Canberra United

The arrival of the Wellington Phoenix was hotly anticipated this season, but they will have to settle for a point from their first game, drawing 1-1 with Canberra United.

Josie Aulicino scored her first competition goal to give Canberra the lead before Marisa van der Meer equalised for the home side before half-time. Neither side was able to put away the decisive goal in the second half that may have proved the winner.

Michelle Heyman started and played the full game for Canberra.

Melbourne City 4 – 0 Central Coast Mariners

Melbourne City made a statement on Saturday, defeating the reigning champions Central Coast Mariners 4-0.

Holly McNamara scored a brace and also provided the assist for one of CommBank Young Matilda Shelby McMahon’s two goals. The Mariners barely looked in the game as City meted out some level of revenge after their semi-final defeat last season.

McNamara started for City before being substituted in the second half. Laura Hughes, Leah Davidson and Alexia Apostolakis all also started for the defending premiers. Isabel Gomez was unavailable for the Mariners.

Adelaide United 0 – 0 Sydney FC

Adelaide United and Sydney FC played out a scoreless draw in Adelaide to earn the Reds' first point of the season.

Adelaide had the better of the opportunities but were unable to convert, with key attacking threats Fiona Worts and Chelsie Dawber only fit enough to start from the bench.

Adriana Taranto started for Adelaide.

Western Sydney Wanderers 1 – 4 Melbourne Victory

Melbourne Victory won after conceding first for the first time since January 2024 when they defeated the Western Sydney Wanderers 4-1.

Danika Matos scored first for the Wanderers early in the first half before American striker Kennedy White scored a hat-trick for Victory, either side of the half-time break. Kiwi international Zoe McMeeken scored her first in navy blue late in the match to seal the result.
