Women’s League Cup

Tottenham Hotspur 1 – 2 West Ham

West Ham came from behind to book their place in the League Cup semi-finals, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1.

Despite having double the shots, Martha Thomas’ early goal for Spurs would be overcome by first-half goals to Seraina Piubel and Kirsty Smith. The Hammers held on in the second half for an important cup victory.

Clare Hunt and Hayley Raso started for Spurs, while Charli Grant was introduced to the game at half-time. Katrina Gorry was a second-half substitute for West Ham.

Brighton & Hove Albion 0 – 4 Arsenal

It took 65 minutes to get on the scoresheet, but once they did, Arsenal were unstoppable against Brighton.

Frida Maanum, Katie McCabe, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Mariona Caldentey were the goal scorers as Arsenal ran away with the result. The goal was Cooney-Cross’ first in a competitive game for Arsenal.

Cooney-Cross started and played the full match for the Gunners, while Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord were unused substitutes.

Manchester United 1 – 2 Manchester City

Manchester City picked up a measure of revenge after their league loss to United, defeating them 2-1 and knocking them out of the League Cup.

City’s Laura Coombs scored first before United’s Millie Turner equalised. It was teenage Lily Murphy – assisted by Mary Fowler - who would score what ultimately turned out to be the winner in first-half stoppage time.

Fowler started and played the full match for City.

Chelsea 5 – 0 Fulham

Chelsea flexed their muscles against second-tier Fulham, winning comprehensively while not allowing Fulham to have a single shot.

Aggie Beever-Jones, Oriane Jean-Francois, Erin Cuthbert, Guro Reiten and Maika Hamano were on the scoresheet as Chelsea eased to the next round.

Sam Kerr remains unavailable for Chelsea as she recovers from her ACL injury.

Women’s Super League

Aston Villa host a Manchester City side on Saturday, 11pm AEDT who will be desperate to secure three points and go back above city rivals United. Meanwhile, any point for Villa is vital as they continue to lift themselves above a relegation battle. Mary Fowler will be available for City.

In the biggest match of the round, Chelsea will take on Arsenal on Sunday, 11.30pm AEDT. Chelsea are undefeated this season so far but the Gunners are still only six points behind them – a win for Arsenal would see them rise to within touching distance of the summit of the league.

Kyra Cooney-Cross, Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord will be available for Arsenal. Sam Kerr remains unavailable for Chelsea.

Crystal Palace take on Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, 1am AEDT as Palace look to lift themselves from the bottom of the table. Three points for Spurs could see them challenge Brighton for fifth. Charli Grant, Clare Hunt and Hayley Raso will be available for Spurs.

Leicester City host Liverpool on Monday, 2am AEDT. The Foxes are only one point off the relegation zone at present and will be desperate for their second win of the season to lift them from danger. Teagan Micah will be available for Liverpool, while Courtney Nevin will be available for Leicester.

West Ham and Everton face off on Monday, 2am AEDT. Both teams are similarly looking for a way out of the relegation contest and a third win of the season for either team would go a long way to doing so. CommBank Matildas will likely face off in midfield, with Clare Wheeler available for Everton and Katrina Gorry available for West Ham.

Germany

The Frauen-Bundesliga returns this weekend, with Jamilla Rankin’s TSG Hoffenheim travelling to take on Carl Zeiss Jena on Monday, 12am AEDT. Hoffenheim go into the match as favourites against the second-bottom team in the competition, and three points could see them rise above Werder Bremen into seventh. Rankin will be available for Hoffenheim.

Netherlands

FC Twente take on Utrecht on Sunday, 10.15pm AEDT. If Twente can pick up three points, they will leapfrog Utrecht into third place. Daniela Galic will be available for Twente.
