CommBank Matilda Alanna Kennedy said that she cherished every moment that she spent with the team after debuting back in 2012.
She became the fifth player to reach 150 appearances for the national team in the 2-0 victory over Kenya on Wednesday (Thursday morning AEST). The result meant that the team lifted the FIFA Series 2026™ trophy.
“It feels good for me on a personal level to have played so many games for my country,” she said.
“It's an honour to win a trophy with the team as well. It’s what you want to do as a footballer. So I'm proud of the team.”
Kennedy wore the captain’s armband for the special occasion, becoming the 37th player to lead the CommBank Matildas out of the tunnel on matchday.
“It's a special moment,” she said.
“Any time you get to wear the armband it’s an honour, and any time we get to step on the field for our country is an honour. I’m very grateful for the opportunity, and hopefully have a few more under my belt. “
To achieve this moment alongside a group of players who have been there for the journey makes it all the more special.
“It's been a long journey,” she said.
“We’ve all grown up together. A group of us all debuted together, and a few are still here as well. They’re some of my best mates and we've had a lot of highs and lows throughout that time.
“I just hope that I can continue for a little bit longer and continue to cherish every moment that I get on the field with this team.”
