Starting out in WA
McKenna grew up playing for Cockburn City FC, joining their junior side at the age of six. A strong showing for her junior side saw her represent the Football West National Training Centre (FW NTC), which competed in the NPL WA Women's competition at U13, U15, and U19 levels before joining their senior side in 2017.
At 16-years-old, she made her debut in the A-League Women's (then known as the W-League) for Perth Glory, coming off the bench and scoring on debut in Glory's 4-4 draw with Canberra United in November 2018.

In her debut season, she impressed with her hometown club, picking up two assists in the semi-final, providing a stunning ball to striker Sam Kerr to score the side's third of the game and send Perth Glory into the 2018/19 Final. That same year, McKenna was named Western Australia's Female Footballer of the Year in February 2019.
Moving to Brisbane & youth national team call-ups
Following her second season with Perth Glory, scoring one goal across 12 games in the 2019/20 season, the midfielder signed with Brisbane Roar for the 2020/21 season. Her season at Roar saw her play 12 games and helped the Roar finish as runners-up in the league.
McKenna was called up for the CommBank Young Matildas off the back of a strong display in the A-League Women's. Representing Australia during their first round of qualifiers ahead of the 2019 AFC U-19 Women's Championship, in a side that featured Kyra Cooney-Cross, Mary Fowler, Amy Sayer and Courtney Nevin.
Melbourne City & U23 glory
The midfielder moved to Melbourne City for the 2021/22 season, making 12 appearances throughout the season, helping City to a second-place finish on the table after the regular season.
The 2022/23 season saw her make 19 appearances and score two goals for City, although going down to their rivals, Melbourne Victory, in the semi-finals.
The following season saw McKenna make 24 appearances for City, helping them to the 2023/24 Premiership title. The 2024/25 season saw similar glory, with City once again claiming the Premiership title after an unbeaten regular season run.
McKenna was named in the U23 squad for the 2025 ASEAN Women's Championship in Vietnam, scoring in the side's 9-0 win over Timor Leste to book their spot in the semi-finals. The midfielder then scored Australia's second goal in their 2-1 win over Vietnam to book their spot in the final, helping Australia lift the title after a narrow 1-0 victory over Myanmar in the decider to become ASEAN Champions.
