Charli Grant signs with Malmö FF in the OBOS Damallsvenskan

Charli Grant has made the move to Sweden, signing with Malmö FF in the OBOS Damallsvenskan after spending the last two and a half years in the Women's Super League with Tottenham Hotspur.

Grant signs with Malmö FF on a three-year contract for the upcoming season, signing a contract until the summer of 2029. The defender makes the move back to Sweden after spending four seasons in the Damallsvenskan, starting with FC Rosengård in the 2021 season and then playing two seasons with Vittsjö GIK.

"It feels fantastic to be here. When I was in Sweden and playing for other clubs, Malmö FF was still a couple of steps down in the league system, but I kept hearing that they were on their way up and would soon reach Damallsvenskan. It is impressive to see the development and how they have now reached the top of the league. When I visited the club a while ago, I was very impressed. The facilities here are incredibly good, and the team feels very well looked after, which is nice to see." Grant said in her first interview with the club.

"I’m looking forward to getting started with the team and helping it develop and become even better. Then I’m also looking forward to meeting my Australian friends on the team (Amy Sayer and Courtney Nevin). I’ve known them for a while, and it’s great that we now get the chance to play together."

"I am a forward-leaning player who works very hard and likes to run a lot. Those are probably my main strengths. During my time at Tottenham, I have developed a lot. Especially when it comes to being patient with the ball and making quick, real decisions. When you face the best players in the world, you have to be quick in your thinking."

The defender helped Rosengård to the 2021/22 Swedish Cup title and the 2021 and 2022 Damallsvenskan league title, and will bring a wealth of experience to Malmö's side.

Grant joins three Australians at Malmö, with defender Courtney Nevin signing for the club in November 2025 and midfielder Amy Sayer signing for the side in January 2026.

The defender made 35 appearances across all competitions for Spurs, helping the North London side to a second-place finish in the 2023/24 Women's FA Cup run.

Malmö currently sit in third place in the 2026 season at the midway point, and if they remain in the top three will qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League for next season.

The season returns in two weeks time from break, with Grant looking to make her debut for Malmö against her former club, Vittsjö GIK, when the sides go head-to-head on Tuesday, 28th July at 3:00am AEST.
