It was a weekend to remember for Melbourne City, advancing to the semi-finals of the AFC Asian Women’s Champions League while results elsewhere secured their third consecutive Premiership.

AFC Asian Women’s Champions League
Melbourne City 2 – 1 PFC Nasaf
Melbourne City overcame a determined Uzbekistan outfit to advance to the semi-finals of the AFC Asian Women’s Champions League.
City took the lead in the first half thanks to a header from Holly McNamara. Moments later, however, Nasaf equalised, setting the game up for a fascinating second 45 minutes. It took until the 90th minute for City to finally break them down with Chinaza Uchendu coming off the bench to score the winner.

City will play Tokyo Verdy Beleza in the semi-final, with details to be confirmed later.
A-League Women’s
Brisbane Roar 5 – 2 Perth Glory
The weekend’s action started with a seven-goal thriller in Brisbane, with the Roar ultimately triumphant.
The Roar sprung out of the gates to lead by two goals before being pegged back just after half-time. It was the second half where the Roar asserted their authority; however, goals from Kijah Stephenson, Momo Hayashi and Tameka Yallop extended their lead to three, helping them to an all-important victory.

Brisbane will need at least a draw next week to guarantee finals football. The Glory, meanwhile, will need results to go their way and a ten-goal swing to stay alive.
Chloe Lincoln started for the Roar while Tameka Yallop continued her return from injury by coming off the bench in the second half.
Adelaide United 1 – 3 Newcastle Jets
The Newcastle Jets overcame a depleted Adelaide United 3-1.
Kiwi international Kelli Brown scored a brace either side of half-time as the Jets made their pressure and high-quality chances count throughout the match. The Reds will be disappointed to lose, but in a game where they were missing Irish international Erin Healy, as well as the Taranto twins, they should be able to regroup to finish the season strong next week.
Results elsewhere secured Adelaide’s place in the top six, while the Jets are eliminated from finals contention.
Sydney FC 2 – 1 Melbourne Victory
Sydney FC once again proved that form lines don’t matter in derbies, defeating Melbourne Victory 2-1.
Panama international Riley Tanner scored a brace for the Sky Blues as they overcame the deficit from Rachel Lowe’s first-half strike. Sydney still goes into the final round of the season at the bottom of the table, but they’ve put Victory in a sticky situation – they’ll need a win, and results elsewhere to go their way, if they are to qualify for finals.
Wellington Phoenix 0 – 1 Western Sydney Wanderers
The Western Sydney Wanderers have pulled off their most impressive victory of the season in their final game, defeating the Phoenix 1-0 away from home.
China international Yuan Cong scored the decisive goal in the second half as the Wanderers lifted themselves above rivals Sydney FC at the bottom of the table. The Phoenix remain in second on goal difference, and will require a win next week if they are to remain there and not have to contend with an elimination final.
This result meant that Melbourne City were confirmed as Premiers, as the Phoenix no longer had the ability to catch them at the top.
Central Coast Mariners 0 – 0 Canberra United
The round ended with a scoreless draw between the Central Coast Mariners and Canberra United.
Neither team particularly got going during the match in a game of few chances. After only picking up one point from this fixture, the defending champions, the Mariners, may be relying on a win in the final round of the season to qualify for finals football. For Canberra, they will be hoping for a positive result next week to see them jump the Phoenix and finish in second.
Michelle Heyman started with the captain’s armband for Canberra.
