UEFA Women’s Champions League Qualifiers

Placement Matches

Despite losing to S.L Benfica on the weekend, FC Nordsjælland will have an opportunity to make something out of their UWCL campaign when they take on Kĺ Klaksvik Kvinner from the Faroe Islands on Saturday, 7pm AEST.

Winonah Heatley and her side will be hoping for a win to take with them for the rest of their domestic campaign. They will be unable to qualify for the next round.

Round 1 Qualification Finals

Paris FC will be looking to recreate their memorable run to the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stages last season as they take on Sparta Praha on Sunday, 2am AEST.

Sparta Praha are giants of Czech women’s football, having won 21 league titles in their history. They qualified for the Champions League by finishing runners-up last season, second to city rivals Slavia Prague.

Sarah Hunter will be available for Paris FC as she hopes to build on her minutes from the last game and help her side qualify for the next round.

FC Twente takes on Icelandic Champions Valur Reykjavik on Sunday, 2am AEST. Valur is in good form, smashing Macedonian side ZFK Ljuboten 10-0 in the previous game, and it will be a stern test for the Dutch side.

Daniela Galic made her competitive debut off the bench for Twente midweek and will be available for more minutes on the weekend.

Arsenal take on Norwegian side Rosenborg BK Kvinner on Sunday, 4.30am AEST for a place in the next round. While they go into this side as favourites, they will be acutely aware of the dangers that await them in UWCL qualifying, after failing to reach the group stage last season.

Kyra Cooney-Cross and Caitlin Foord will be available for Arsenal. Steph Catley missed out midweek with a minor injury and will be hoping to make her return on the weekend.

United States

Portland Thorns will travel to take on Washington Spirit on Sunday, 2.30am AEST. It will be a tough assignment for the Thorns to go up against the team in second place on the NWSL table. However, with players of the calibre of Mackenzie Arnold at one end in goals, and Ballon d’Or nominee Sophia Smith at centre-forward, the Thorns will always back themselves to get a result.

It’ll be Aussie against Aussie when the San Diego Wave take on North Carolina Courage at a very friendly time of Monday, 10am AEST. The Wave got their first point in four games last weekend, but need to start picking up three if they are to challenge for a spot in the final. Meanwhile, a win for the Courage will see them keep in touch with the top four.

Emily van Egmond will be available for the Wave, while Kaitlyn Torpey will be hoping to make her return from injury. Cortnee Vine scored her first goal in the NWSL last week after impressing in her first two starts for the club and will be hoping to make a similar impact on the weekend.

Sweden

BK Häcken host AIK Fotboll on Saturday, 11pm AEST. It is an important game for both sides – Häcken need to keep winning to remain in the UEFA Champions League qualification places, while AIK need points to help dig themselves out of the relegation zone.

Jada Whyman will be available between the sticks for AIK.

It will be another big game as Kristianstads DFF travel to take on Hammarby on Sunday, 11pm AEST. Hammarby are currently second behind the imperious Rosengård, while Kristianstads are in fourth, ten points away from the top three.

Remy Siemsen and Clare Polkinghorne will be available for Kristianstads. Amy Sayer continues her rehab after rupturing her ACL earlier in the year.
