Chelsea and Ellie Carpenter have qualified for the UEFA Women’s Champions League proper with a 1-0 (6-2 on aggregate) victory over Real Sociedad midweek.
Elsewhere, the WSL gets underway this weekend, with twelve CommBank Matildas competing this season.
UEFA Women’s Champions League
Chelsea have defeated Real Sociedad 1-0 away from home in the second leg to secure a 6-2 aggregate victory over the Spanish side and advance to the UEFA Women’s Champions League proper. Kiera Walsh scored the only goal of the game. Ellie Carpenter started and was lively, creating a number of chances and doing her part in helping the side keep a clean sheet.
Eintracht Frankfurt will compete in the Europa Cup this season after a 5-1 defeat to PSG in their UWCL playoff (6-2 on aggregate). The scores were locked at 1-1 (2-2 on aggregate) after 90 minutes, but PSG well and truly pulled away in extra time, scoring four goals. Hayley Raso started the match but was shown a second yellow card and sent off in the 66th minute. Jamilla Rankin was substituted on at half-time of extra time.
England
The WSL gets underway this weekend, with plenty of CommBank Matildas in action.
London City Lionesses host Manchester United on Saturday, 4am AEST. The WSL opener is sold out and is set to be an exciting one as the Lionesses look to establish themselves as a new heavyweight in the competition. Alanna Kennedy will be available for London City.
Chelsea take on Aston Villa on Saturday, 9.30pm AEST. After a disappointing campaign last time out, the Blues will be hoping to make a statement in their opening match of the season. Ellie Carpenter will be available for Chelsea after playing a big role in their UWCL qualification.
Aussies will face off for the first time this season when Brighton & Hove Albion host Arsenal on Sunday, 9pm AEST. Brighton had an exciting campaign last time out, but the Gunners will go into the match as favourites, having designs on the title this season. Charlie Rule is expected to start for the Seagulls while Kyra Cooney-Cross, Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord will all be available for Arsenal.
Tottenham Hotspur start their WSL campaign by taking on West Ham on Sunday, 9pm AEST. They also had a very successful season last time out and will be hoping to build on that in 2026/27. Clare Hunt has been unable to participate in preseason due to ongoing rehabilitation of a knee injury and is unlikely to be available this weekend.
Newly promoted Charlton Athletic host Liverpool on Sunday, 11pm AEST. It will be a test for their new signings to see how they adapt to the WSL this season. Emily van Egmond is one of those signings and has heavily featured in pre-season, while fellow Australians Leah Davidson and CommBank Young Matilda Grace Johnston will also be available.
Everton travel to take on Crystal Palace to begin their season on Sunday, 11pm AEST. The Toffees struggled last campaign and will hope to start positively against the newly promoted side. Clare Wheeler will be available in midfield, while the team’s new number nine Holly McNamara will hope to make her WSL debut.
Finally, Manchester City host Birmingham City on Sunday, 11.30pm AEST. The defending champions will go into the match against the newly promoted side as heavy favourites, but matches are not played on paper, and it will be a fascinating insight into Birmingham after their return to the league. Mary Fowler has had a productive pre-season, providing a number of assists, and will be available for Manchester City.

Sweden
FC Rosengård take on Djurgården on Saturday, 10pm AEST. Every match is important for Rosengård as they hope to avoid relegation and any points this weekend will be vital. Remy Siemsen, Bryleeh Henry and Isabel Gomez will all be available for Rosengård.
Malmö FF face a big challenge against top-of-the-table BK Häcken on Sunday, 11pm AEST. Any point will help them remain in the top three and UWCL places, but it will be tough against a Häcken side who have only dropped points once all season. Courtney Nevin, Charli Grant and Amy Sayer will all be available for Malmö.
United States
Gotham FC travel to take on Denver Summit on Monday, 4am AEST. Gotham are still five points clear on top of the table and will be favourites against a Summit side that currently sit outside the top eight. Sam Kerr will be available for Gotham.
Portland Thorns host Washington Spirit on Monday, 6am AEST. It’s another huge clash for the Thorns, who are currently fifth – two points behind the Spirit in second. Mackenzie Arnold is expected to start in goal for the Thorns.
Italy
AS Roma take on Fiorentina on Sunday, 1.30am AEST. Roma will need a win to have any hope of advancing to the next stage of the Serie A Cup. Wini Heatley will be available for Roma.
Como take on their namesake, Como 1907, on Sunday, 8.30pm AEST. Alex Chidiac will be hoping to help her side end the Serie A Cup on a high with their first win of the season.
Germany
Eintracht Frankfurt continue their Frauen-Bundesliga campaign against Union Berlin on Tuesday, 2am AEST. Hayley Raso and Jamilla Rankin will be available as they look to bounce back after defeat in UWCL qualification and their draw in the league last week.
Canada
Calgary Wild take on AFC Toronto on Monday, 4am AEST. Kahli Johnson will be hoping to continue her fantastic goalscoring form as the Wild look to continue their run of four games undefeated in the league.
