UEFA Women’s Champions League

Matchday 3 of this season’s UWCL took place midweek.

Roma were defeated 1-0 by Norwegian side Valerenga. The result means that Roma are languishing towards the bottom of the UWCL table, on zero points after three games. Winonah Heatley started and played the full match for Roma.

Chelsea eased past Austrian side St. Pölten 6-0. Sam Kerr scored a second-half brace as she started and played a full match in Chelsea colours for the first time since returning from her ACL injury. Ellie Carpenter also started for Chelsea.

Lyon defeated Wolfsburg 3-1, with a brace to Ada Hegerberg in the first half proving influential. Teagan Micah was an unused substitute for Lyon.

Arsenal fell to Bayern Munich 3-2. After taking a two-goal lead into half-time, the German side overran them late to take all three points. Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord both started, while Kyra Cooney-Cross was introduced in the second half.

UEFA Women’s Europa Cup

Two late goals for Eintracht Frankfurt saw them defeat Dutch side PSV 2-1 in the first leg of the quarter-finals. The result puts them in good standing to advance, with the second leg to be played next week. Hayley Raso started for Frankfurt before being withdrawn at half-time.

Women’s Super League

It will be a highly Aussie-flavoured midfield battle when Katrina Gorry’s West Ham take on Clare Wheeler’s Everton. The Hammers are seeking their first three points of the season after finally getting on the board with a draw last week.

Liverpool hosts Chelsea on Sunday, 11pm AEDT. The Blues could jump back to the top of the table pending results elsewhere and will hope for that outcome after a strong midweek victory in the UWCL. Sam Kerr and Ellie Carpenter are available for Chelsea.

The round will finish with an intriguing North London Derby on Monday, 1.30am AEDT. Arsenal are currently only one place above Spurs on the table, but will be hoping to bounce back against their arch-rivals after a bruising midweek defeat. Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross are all available for Arsenal, while Clare Hunt and Charli Grant will be among the players to beat if they are to have attacking success.

Malmö FF hosts Vittsjö GIK as they celebrate qualifying for continental football next season. They’ll be disappointed they couldn’t keep up their title challenge, but will look forward to the European stage, starting midway through next year. Courtney Nevin is available for Malmö, and Daniela Galic is also expected to start for Vittsjö.

AIK Fotboll finish the season against Norrköping. It’s been a successful season for AIK after only just avoiding relegation last season and having no such woes this time out. Jada Whyman has been battling a knee injury and will likely be unavailable.
