Matildas Abroad Review: Kerr scores brace; Carpenter, Sayer, Siemsen score; Arsenal ahead in UWCL semi-final

Sam Kerr and Ellie Carpenter were both on the scoresheet in Chelsea's win over Everton on the weekend.

In Sweden, both Remy Siemsen and Amy Sayer scored goals, while Arsenal put themselves ahead in the first leg of the UWCL semi-final against Lyon.

UEFA Women’s Champions League

Arsenal defeated Lyon 2-1 in the first leg of the UWCL semi-final. A late goal to Olivia Smith gave them the advantage at home after an own goal equalised early in the second half. Caitlin Foord started for the Gunners, with Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross both unavailable. Teagan Micah remains unavailable for Lyon.

England

WSL

A fantastic performance from Brighton & Hove Albion opened the door for a late title race, defeating top-of-the-table Manchester City 3-2. Former A-League Women’s star Madison Haley scored a brace for Brighton as they caused a major upset. Charli Rule played the first half for Brighton, while Mary Fowler came off the bench in the second half for City.

Tottenham Hotspur played out a scoreless draw with Manchester United. Despite having the better of the game, Spurs weren’t quite able to find a way to secure three points. Charli Grant was an unused substitute for Spurs.

Alanna Kennedy played all 90 minutes as the London City Lionesses cruised past Leicester City, defeating them 5-1. There were five different goal scorers in a dominant performance. Emily van Egmond was unavailable for Leicester.

Chelsea defeated Everton 4-1 to put themselves in the best possible place to secure European football. Sam Kerr scored the first two for Chelsea, while Ellie Carpenter scored the third. Clare Wheeler played for Everton and picked up the assist for their goal. All three Australians started for their teams.

West Ham defeated Liverpool 1-0 in a result that almost secures safety. An early own goal was enough for them to walk away with all three points. Katrina Gorry was unavailable for West Ham.

WSL2

A 99th-minute goal to Bristol City has dealt a fatal blow to Newcastle United’s promotion hopes, falling 2-1. Kaitlyn Torpey was unavailable for the Magpies.

Sweden

Remy Siemsen scored an important late equaliser as FC Rosengård drew 1-1 with Uppsala. The goal helped them to their first points of the season, but they’re still chasing their first win. Siemsen started and played the full match for Rosengård.

Malmö FF continued their strong start to the season with a 2-0 win over Brommapojkarna. Amy Sayer scored in the second half, continuing her fantastic form to help them to the three points, while Courtney Nevin started and played the full game at left-back.

United States

NWSL

Portland Thorns defeated Angel City FC in a thriller, overcoming them 2-1. All three goals were scored late in the game, the sealer being Sophia Wilson’s 95th-minute goal for Portland. Mackenzie Arnold played in goals for the Thorns.

Germany

Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Wolfsburg 3-1 in a huge result for their European hopes. They went 3-0 up just after half-time and weren’t able to be reeled in. Hayley Raso was a second-half substitute for Frankfurt.

Jamilla Rankin's TSG Hoffenheim will take on Køln tomorrow, needing a win to remain within touching distance of Frankfurt in third.

Italy

AS Roma picked up a huge victory against Juventus, the 1-0 result meaning that they remain six points clear on top of the league table with three games remaining. Giulia Dragoni’s second-half goal proved the difference between the two sides. Winonah Heatley was a second-half substitute for Roma.

Sassuolo also picked up a massive win at the other end of the table, 3-0 victors over Lazio. The result puts them seven points clear of the relegation zone. Jessika Nash was an unused substitute.

Alex Chidiac started and played the full match for Como as they drew 1-1 with Parma. Nadine Nischler scored the goal for Como to give them a point. Como are well clear of relegation and are six points away from an unlikely push for European football.

Canada

Calgary Wild fell 2-0 against Montreal Roses in the first game of the 2026 Northern Super League season. Kahli Johnson started and played the full game for Calgary.
