Sam Kerr returns to the squad for the first time in 692 days

CommBank Matildas forward Sam Kerr has received her first call-up since November 2023, 692 days, being called into camp for Australia’s upcoming games against Wales and England in the October FIFA International Window.

Kerr returns to the squad after returning from her ACL injury in late September, following the injury sustained in January 2024.

This will be the first time the forward has been called into camp under head coach Joe Montemurro; however, she was part of the team’s last camp in Perth as she continued her rehab from her injury.

“Having Sam back in the squad is a special moment - not just for the team, but for Australian football. Her leadership and presence are invaluable as we continue building toward the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™ and beyond.”

Kerr’s last appearance for Australia was during the team’s AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying campaign against Chinese Taipei in her hometown of Perth in November 2023, scoring in the game.

The striker’s return to the squad comes with next year’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™ on the horizon, where the side will open their campaign in Perth against the Philippines.

Australia’s all-time leading goal scorer made her return for Chelsea in September, coming off the bench and scoring in her first appearance for the Blues in 634 days, notching her 100th goal for the club.
