Goalkeeper Sally James represented the CommBank Young Matildas at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Costa Rica 2022™, starting all three of Australia's group stage matches during the tournament.

James was first called up for the senior team ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games, named to the Transition Camp roster as the team prepared for the games in Tokyo.

The goalkeepers next call-up at senior level would come in April 2025, when she was added to the squad for Australia's two-match series against Korea Republic to replace an injured Mackenzie Arnold. James has now been called up for the two-match series against Panama.
