Bayern v Arsenal

The Gunners went down 1-0 to German side Bayern Munich in the first leg of their quarter-final tie. Caitlin Foord started for the away side and looked most likely to open the scoring for Arsenal, with her attempt from just outside the box in the 7th minute going straight into the arm of defender Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir with appeals for a penalty denied.

Bayern took a 1-0 lead going into the interval after Lea Schüller's header found the back of the net. Arsenal came out of the break firing, with Foord almost finding the equaliser twice, her first attempt hitting the post and then the next slipping through the hands of the keeper but was cleared.

A goal-mouth scramble almost saw the Gunners level the score, with Leah Williamson’s attempt cleared off the line. Arsenal will have it all to play for next week when they welcome Bayern to the Emirates Stadium.

The defending champions, Lyon, had two early chances through Eugénie Le Sommer, however, it was Chelsea that would take the lead before the half-hour mark. Erin Cuthbert squared the ball to an unmarked Guro Reiten, who curled her attempt in from just inside the box.

Kerr had an attempt to double the Blues' lead just before the break, with her shot just wide of the target. Carpenter had a chance of her own to get her name on the scoresheet, marking her return to the competition with a brilliant performance for Lyon, making a darting run into the box but her attempt was just wide.
