CommBank Matilda Sharn Freier’s season has been cut abruptly short following confirmation that the Brisbane Roar forward has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
The 24-year-old was helped off the pitch late in the Roar's 2-2 draw with the Central Coast Mariners over the weekend, with subsequent scans verifying that Freier would face a lengthy stay on the sidelines.
This injury marks the second time Freier has sustained an ACL injury, having suffered this injury back in 2022.
The Roar forward has helped her side into second place on the ladder for the 2025/26 season, having picked up four assists and scored three goals.
Freier has represented Australia nine times at the senior level since making her debut against Mexico in April 2024, scoring on two occasions and competing at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
“We are all heartbroken for Sharn, especially after already experiencing an ACL injury a few years ago,” said Brisbane Roar Head Coach, Alex Smith.
Freier is set to undergo surgery in the coming weeks and will commence a rehabilitation program with Roar after the procedure.
