CommBank Matildas' forward Sharn Freier has officially signed for VfL Wolfsburg in the Frauen-Bundesliga, making the move from Brisbane Roar and set to join the side at the conclusion of the 2024/25 Ninja A-League season.
Freier has signed for German side VfL Wolfsburg, signing with the seven-time Frauen-Bundesliga champions, on a deal through to June 2028.
This will be the defender’s first overseas contract, having previously played with her hometown club, Brisbane Roar, since signing her first professional contract in 2020.
An impressive debut year in green & gold has seen the forward make nine appearances and scoring two goals since making her debut against Mexico in April 2024.
Freier finished off the year with Australia on a strong note, scoring in back-to-back games and being named Player of the Match in our final game of the year.
This will be the second Australian to play for VfL Wolfsburg, after midfielder Emily Van Egmond spent the 2016/17 season with the German side.
“I’m already looking forward to joining VfL Wolfsburg and I’m excited about the prospect of playing in a league outside Australia for the first time,” Freier said to vfl-wolfsburg.de.
"To be able to play for such a successful club with so many great players fills me with pride and gratitude. I can’t wait to take on this new challenge and meet my future team-mates. I’m also looking forward to learning a new language and experiencing German culture.”
