The CommBank Matildas are set to take on Mexico in two friendlies on June 6 in Newcastle and June 9 in Sydney.
Let’s take a look down memory lane to our previous encounters with the World No.27.
First meeting
The teams first played each other on 29 January 2003 in Canberra. It was part of a tournament called the Australia Cup, which also featured Korea Republic and Sweden.
April Mann and an own goal off the back of a Heather Garriock free kick secured the 2-0 victory for Australia.
Cheryl Salisbury wore the captain’s armband for that game while Adrian Santrac was the Head Coach for the occasion.
Head-to-head record
The teams have played each other ten times in ‘A’ internationals. Australia have been victorious in nine of them, the lone loss coming on 11 July 2004.
Australia were heavily impacted by a virus and the altitude in Guadalajara for the second game of a two-game series, and late goals for Maribel Dominguez secured the win for the home side.
A 16-year-old Sally Shipard made her debut in that match.
Last game
The last time these sides met was on 9 April 2024 in a one-off friendly match in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
The CommBank Matildas were 2-0 victors that day thanks to goals from Hayley Raso and Caitlin Foord.

The starting eleven is an incredibly familiar one, with all eleven starters being a part of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™ squad who recently competed on home soil.
Sharn Freier debuted in that game, becoming CommBank Matilda #228.
