Micah: We’re trying a new style and new brand
CommBank Matildas goalkeeper Teagan Micah said that the team’s performance was encouraging after their 3-0 victory over Slovenia on Thursday evening.
She was speaking to media at the post-match press conference following her clean sheet.

“It was a good game,” she said.
“We're trying to a new style and brand. There were good passages of play. We gave them some chances there, so if we tidy those up, it should be a lot better.”
One of the features of a higher possession brand of football is shorter distribution from goalkeepers, something that Micah said she is more than comfortable with.
“I like it – it saves me hitting 50-yard balls,” she laughed.
“We can break teams down that way. But then you saw towards the end, we were going a bit longer. You’ll probably see us playing out more - but then also, if it's not on, be effective [with long balls].”
Slovenia had a total of 20 shots throughout the game, six of which were on target. Micah said that she was happy with the clean sheet in spite of opposition chances.
“I'm happy with that,” she reflected.
“Hopefully we minimise the chances next game. A clean sheet is a team thing as well, so the girls did really well tonight.”
Many of Slovenia’s chances came off the back of errors from Australia in possession. The goalkeeper wasn’t too worried, echoing her coaches’ sentiments about adjusting to the new system.
“That's part of the territory,” she said.
“A lot of the girls also in off season, so you have to keep that in mind as well. We're all getting used to a new system and style of play, so hopefully we'll be able to minimise those errors moving forward.
“Every time you play, you feel a bit more confident. I hope that continues and [we’ll take it] one game at a time.”
