Melbourne Victory travel to take on a Newcastle Jets side full of confidence on Friday evening in a clash between second and third on the ladder.

The Jets responded in the best way possible after their F3 Derby defeat, comprehensively victorious over the Brisbane Roar last week. They'll hope to take the lessons from those games into this one against a strong Victory side. Natasha Prior will be available for the Jets.

Victory has been unconvincing compared to preseason expectations, but still has a way of accumulating wins. They'll back themselves to get the job done away from home and lift themselves back to the top of the table.

Wellington Phoenix v Sydney FC

Wellington Phoenix and Sydney FC are two sides in desperate need of goals - who will find them on Saturday?

The Phoenix have arguably been the better side in their previous two outings, against Melbourne City and Perth Glory, but fell to heartbreaking 1-0 defeats in each. They'll need to show that they can hit the back of the net if they are to find a way to secure three points and move up the table.

Sydney FC have had similar issues in front of goal over the course of the last few seasons. Their defence has been sturdy - only breached by Canberra United a week and a half ago, and Melbourne City in round one - but it is in the attacking third that they'll need to improve in New Zealand if they are to get their season back on track.

Canberra United v Central Coast Mariners

In the most hotly anticipated match of the round, Canberra United hosts defending champions Central Coast Mariners.

Canberra are coming off the back of a tremendous week. Over the course of eight days, they defeated Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC and Melbourne City to launch themselves into title contender status. They'll hope to continue that run against the Mariners this weekend. Michelle Heyman was central to their success and is expected to lead the line.

The Central Coast Mariners had a tough start to the season but have since found form, coming into this game off the back of two consecutive victories. They'll back themselves to spoil Canberra's party - just as they did in the elimination final last season. Isabel Gomez will be available for the Mariners.

Perth Glory v Adelaide United

Date: Sunday, 21 December
Venue: Sam Kerr Football Centre
Kickoff: 5pm local, 8pm AEDT
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+

Perth Glory and Adelaide United face off in the final game of the round, which is turning into a crucial match for both teams.

The Glory are coming off the back of a narrow victory last week against the Phoenix, but know they need to improve if they are to continue picking up points. They'll hope that the likes of Susan Phonsongkham can lift them once again against the Reds this time out.

After the soaring heights of last season, Adelaide find themselves in tenth, well adrift of the top teams in the competition. They need to start winning - and this week provides no better opportunity to do so, with the likes of Erin Healy and Chelsie Dawber still available.
