Matildas Abroad Review: Siemsen debuts for Kristianstads DFF; Gunners victorious on USA tour

Remy Siemsen debuted off the bench for Kristianstads DFF in Sweden, FC Nordsjælland continued their winning ways, and Arsenal's USA tour began with victory.

Sweden

Kristianstads DFF played out a scoreless draw with Vittsjö GIK on the weekend. It meant a clean sheet for Clare Polkinghorne, who started the game for Kristianstads and played the full match. Remy Siemsen, meanwhile, made her debut for the club, coming off the bench in the 65th minute.

The team remain fourth on the ladder, one place outside of European qualification. Amy Sayer was unavailable as she continues to rehabilitate her ruptured ACL.

The team one place above them on the ladder, Aivi Luik’s BK Häcken, play midweek.

Denmark

FC Nordsjælland continued their title defence with a 2-1 victory over HB Køge on the weekend. After falling 1-0 behind, the game turned on its head when Køge’s Rebeka Winther was shown a red card towards the end of the first half. Nordsjælland’s Emilia Asgeirsdottir was able to capitalise on the player advantage, scoring a brace, and the defending champions walked away with three points.

It means that after two games, they sit on a perfect six points on top of the table. Winonah Heatley started and played the full game for FC Nordsjælland.

Netherlands

Daniela Galic was part of the FC Twente squad who fell 2-0 to Frauen-Bundesliga side SGS Essen in a pre-season friendly on Saturday. They continue to prepare for the season ahead, which gets underway in September in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

England

Arsenal and Chelsea travelled to the United States for pre-season friendlies in the lead-up to the WSL season.

A brace to Alessia Russo was the difference as the Gunners defeated NWSL side the Washington Spirit 2-1. It was an opportunity for both sides to try new combinations before their respective league seasons recommence.

Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross all started on the bench. They were substituted on in the 78th minute.
