Matildas Abroad Preview: FA Cup Quarter-Finals get underway; CommBank Matildas involved in cup ties in Sweden, Denmark

The FA Cup quarter-finals get underway this weekend, with six CommBank Matildas hoping to advance to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, cup ties continue in Sweden and Denmark as the early stages of competitive football in Scandinavia for 2025 continue.

England

The FA Cup quarter-finals get underway this weekend.

Manchester City host Aston Villa on Sunday, 11.30 pm AEDT. City will go into the match as favourites, but Villa know that a cup is their best chance of silverware this season. Mary Fowler will be available for City.

Chelsea take on Crystal Palace on Monday, 1.30 am AEDT. Similarly, Chelsea are overwhelming favourites, but in one-off games, anything can happen. Sam Kerr remains unavailable for Chelsea as she rehabilitates her ACL.

Arsenal and Liverpool also face off on Monday, 1.30 am AEDT. This is potentially the most even game of the quarter-finals with Liverpool hoping to make their first FA Cup semi-final since 2016/17. Teagan Micah will be available for Liverpool while Kyra Cooney-Cross, Caitlin Foord and Steph Catley will be available for the Gunners.

The other quarter-final sees Manchester United take on second-tier Sunderland.

Sweden

Kristianstads DFF continue their Swedish Cup campaign with a match against KIF Orebro DFF on Monday, 3 am AEDT. They are hoping to top their group and advance through to the next round. Remy Siemsen will be available for Kristianstads, while Amy Sayer continues to rehabilitate her ACL injury.

AIK Fotboll take on Norrkoping in their second game of the Swedish Cup on Tuesday, 5 am. Jada Whyman is unavailable for AIK as she continues her rehabilitation from her leg injury.

Denmark

FC Nordsjælland take on Varde IF in the Danish Cup on Sunday, 12 am AEDT. Nordsjælland are hoping to defend the cup title that they took out last year. Winonah Heatley will be available for the defending champions.

Netherlands

FC Twente take on Feyenoord on Sunday, 12 am AEDT. Every game is vital for Twente in the title race, as they are only one point away from Ajax in first. Daniela Galic will be available for Twente.

Germany

TSG Hoffenheim take on Werder Bremen on Tuesday, 4 am AEDT as they hope to continue their charge up the table. Jamilla Rankin will be available for Hoffenheim.
