Matildas Abroad Review: Cooney-Cross assists as Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, City advance to FA Cup quarter-finals

Kyra Cooney-Cross continued her fantastic form with an assist for Arsenal as they were triumphant in their FA Cup fifth round tie.

Meanwhile, pre-season continues in Sweden and Denmark.

FA Cup

Liverpool defeated a spirited Rugby Borough 2-0 and ended their dream cup run. It took until the 84th minute for the WSL side to break through – but once they did, Borough had no answers. Teagan Micah was an unused substitute in a rotated Liverpool side.

Manchester City defeated Leicester City 3-1. The result was fairly comfortable in the end, with the Manchester side dominating possession and chances. Leila Ouahabi, Kerolin and Khadija Shaw were the goalscorers. Mary Fowler started the match before being withdrawn at half-time. Courtney Nevin started and played the full match for Leicester.

Kyra Cooney-Cross assisted a goal as Arsenal defeated London City Lionesses 2-0. Laia Codina’s goal in the first half – assisted by Cooney-Cross - broke the deadlock, while Stina Blackstenius doubled their lead in the second half. Cooney-Cross and Caitlin Foord both started for the Gunners, while Steph Catley was an unused substitute.

Chelsea was forced to come from behind, but made no mistake against Everton, defeating them 4-1. Sara Holmgaard’s early goal gave the Toffees hope but Chelsea continued their imperious form, scoring four unanswered goals to secure the victory. Sam Kerr remains unavailable for Chelsea, while Clare Wheeler was unavailable for Everton with a knock.

Netherlands

FC Twente defeated Telstar 3-1 in a result that saw them maintain third place in the Eredivisie. Daniela Galic was not in the matchday squad.

Germany

TSG Hoffenheim fell 3-1 to Bayern Munich in a spirited performance. Hoffenheim scored first through Dominika Grabowska but were unable to hold onto their lead, with Bayern maintaining their spot on equal first. Jamilla Rankin started and played the full match for Hoffenheim.

Sweden

Remy Siemsen started again as Kristianstads DFF drew 1-1 with Brøndby IF in a pre-season friendly.

Meanwhile, Jada Whyman's AIK Fotball defeated KIF Örebro DFF 3-1. Whyman remains unavailable for AIK.

Denmark

Winonah Heatley’s FC Nordsjælland defeated Swedish side BK Häcken 2-1 in pre-season. They now head to the United States for a training camp.
