Matildas Abroad: Continental League Cup Semi-Finals Preview

Continental Cup football in England returns mid-week with three Westfield Matildas one victory away from playing in the final!

Cup holders Chelsea FC face fellow London rivals West Ham United in the first semi-final tie (Thursday 4am AEDT).

Sam Kerr’s Chelsea have started the new year as English football’s form team, with ten wins from their first twelve matches in the league.

Last time the Blues played West Ham Sam Kerr made the difference, scoring a hat-trick in a 3-2 win.

With Australia's captain starting to regain goal-scoring form, you can expect Chelsea's opposition to have their alarm bells ringing come Thursday morning.

On the Eastern side of London, Emily Van Egmond and Mackenzie Arnold have been pivotal for The Hammers side recently, with Van Egmond getting on the scoresheet and Arnold keeping a clean sheet on both occasions their side emerged victorious.

However The Irons have suffered through inconsistency, bouncing from a positive result to a poor one. After a large defeat on the weekend, expect a resurgent effort, with the Aussie duo playing an influential role.

In the second semi, Chloe Logarzo’s former side Bristol City will look to overturn a disappointing season by reaching the League Cup final, as they face second division outfit Leicester City.
