Football Australia has secured the services of former international manager Magnus Pehrsson as a Tactical Adviser for the CommBank Matildas leading into their Paris 2024™ Olympic Games campaign.
Pehrsson joins as an adviser to the team with over 20 years of managerial experience having served as a successful head coach at several Swedish and Danish clubs overseeing League, UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Cup campaigns, and internationally as a former head coach of Estonia Men's National Football Team.
CommBank Matildas Head Coach, Tony Gustavsson, said: “We are pleased to have access to Magnus’ expertise as we continue our preparations for the Olympics and tackling what will be a challenging set of group opponents.”
“He not only brings a wealth of experience at high levels but also a track record of success having overseen Swedish League titles and Cup finals with the teams he has managed. We have an opportunity to leverage that experience for the benefit of our Paris campaign and I believe Magnus will be an invaluable asset.”

A former player and Swedish youth international, Pehrsson is a FIFA Pro-Licenced coach who for the last four years held the positions of Director of Football and Head Coach at Spanish club, Velez CF.
In supporting the CommBank Matildas’ Technical Staff, Pehrsson said he was eager to utilise his skills and accumulated knowledge for the advantage of the team.
“I am honoured to be part of a national team that is preparing for an Olympic Games in the coming months, and it is a fantastic professional opportunity to provide my contribution to a collective mission,” Pehrsson said.
“The progress of the women's game has been exceptional the last couple of years and the evolution of the game now requires more in-depth analysis to understand the best teams in the world. Coming in with fresh eyes, I hope to use my extensive experience as a head coach and tactical ability to provide insight that can assist Tony and the players for the months ahead.”
