Australia’s senior national women’s football team have not played against the reigning Women’s EURO Champions, England, since October 2018 when the match ended in a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage, Fulham.

Elise Kellond-Knight captained the side in her 100th appearance with the team, leading out the side at Fulham, with teenagers Amy Sayer and Princess Ibini also making their starting debut with the team.

Fran Kirby found the breakthrough for the home side just before the half-hour mark, Steph Catley’s tricky back pass put Mackenzie Arnold under pressure and her clearance was picked up by Beth Mead in the box. The winger found Kirby who turned smartly and slammed it home.

End-to-end action saw Arnold make a stunning double-save to deny Stephanie Houghton and then Mead from close range, immediately after her opposite number Mary Earps denied Ibini the chance the squeeze in the equaliser.

Australia was forced to go into the break down 1-0, with the home side looking to double their advantage.

With just six minutes left, Clare Polkinghorne was Australia’s hero, rising highest to power in a header from a corner to snatch a draw for the visitors.

Australia's squad for this upcoming window is set to be announced this week!
