Kerr: So much more to give

CommBank Matildas forward Sam Kerr expressed that she still has "So much to give" as a leader on the team ahead of her return for Australia when they take on Wales.

She was speaking to the media ahead of her potential return as the side prepares to take on Wales and England.

Kerr has been sidelined from International action since January 2024, after sustaining an ACL injury with her club side, Chelsea, in a mid-season camp. The forward has participated in two camps since then, but this window is her first official call-up in 692 days.

On her return to camp, her first under the head coach Joe Montemurro, Kerr explained that she had been given the freedom just to enjoy her first official days back in camp.

"I think everyone's just giving me space to enjoy myself and be free, come back in and play football,"

"Joe's just letting me enjoy the first few days of camp, and the only meetings I've attended have been team meetings, which have been nice to be honest."

When asked if she had any discussion with Montemurro about captaining the side on her return, Kerr expressed that she still has the desire to be a leader on the field.

"But, on being the captain, of course, I still feel really passionate about that.

"I know I have so much more to give for this team in a leadership role, and this team here will make football decisions, and I feel like football-wise, I'm one of the best leaders in the team.

"So I feel really passionate and proud that I've been in that position before, and hopefully continue forward."
