How a text from Alex Chidiac confirmed Jada Whyman’s Westfield Matildas dream

Jada Whyman will always remember the moment her Westfield Matildas dream came true.

The 18-year-old’s morning preparations were interrupted by a text message from close friend and former Young Matildas teammate Alex Chidiac, who brought joyful tidings.

“She [Chidiac] sent me a text saying how much she misses me and congratulations on making the Matildas," Whyman said.

“I had no idea at that point! I rang my mum straight away and said Mum, I’m going to Europe.

“It was a really awesome moment for us. It was probably about 7 o’clock in the morning, we were down in Bathurst doing coaching clinics so just to find out early in the morning got me buzzing all day.”

The Western Sydney Wanderers shot stopper will now have the chance to make her senior international debut during the Westfield Matildas’ forthcoming European tour.

Whyman, who made her Westfield W-League debut for the Red and Black in 2015, is the only uncapped player in Alen Stajcic’s 18-player roster for October matches against France and England.

She will unite with a slew of former Young Matildas teammates including Chidiac, Mary Fowler, Amy Sayer and Princess Ibini, who have all made Stajcic's squad.

“I’ve always wanted to be a part of the Matildas and it’s been a dream of mine to work my way into the team,” Whyman continued.

“I know I’ve just got to keep working hard and the opportunity will come along and to finally have it here is just awesome.”
