Fowler: "I’m excited for the games"

CommBank Matildas forward Mary Fowler reflected on being back in Adelaide ahead of the two-game ‘Til It’s Done Farewell Series against China PR.

She is familiar with the city, having played her first season of top-flight football for Adelaide United back in 2019/20.

“It’s nice to be in Australia. I miss being home,” she reflected.

“It’s always a good thing to come here and play in front of a home crowd so I’m excited for the games.”

The series marks the third international window of the year, as the team continues their preparations for the Olympic Football Tournament in Paris 2024™.

“It’s nice seeing everyone again,” Fowler expressed. “Everyone’s just excited to see each other and get out there and play again.”

“We’re doing well. We’re the kind of team that tries not to waste a single session. Camp’s been really good so far, everyone’s taking it seriously and trying to get the most out of it while trying to have some fun as well, so I think we’re on our way.”

China PR, the CommBank Matildas opponents for this series, are currently ranked 19th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings and are the defending AFC Women's Asian Cup Champions.

The 21-year-old explained that they present a great challenge heading into the Olympics.

“It’s always nice for us to verse different teams and have a good comparison for where we’re at, look at what we’re working on and see things that we’re doing really well or things we can improve on,” she outlined.

“It’s a good match for us to do this camp and excited to see how we go.”

Fowler finished the season in scintillating form for FA WSL club Manchester City, with four goals in four assists in her final seven games.

However, with a short break on the horizon after her club season has concluded, the focus for the talented youngster is on simply taking the football as it comes.

“I’m someone that just tries to enjoy the day, take it for what it is,” she concluded. “I’m just here to do my best and have a bit of fun, and we’ll see what happens.”
