Emily Van Egmond has signed with newly promoted Charlton Athletic in the WSL, joining after spending the 2025/26 WSL season with Leicester City.
The midfielder joins the newly promoted Charlton Athletic in the WSL, marking The Addicks' maiden campaign in the top-flight after securing promotion last season.
Charlton achieved this historic milestone by defeating Van Egmond’s former club, Leicester City in the WSL play-off in May 2026 on 2-1 penalties after scores were locked at 0-0 after extra time.
"Yeah, it feels amazing. I'm obviously excited for the new challenge and just can’t wait for the season to start." said to cafc.co.uk.
"When I first initially spoke to Charlton, it was just the culture [that made me want to sign] and, to be honest with you, the winning mentality and the ambition the club has set.
"I felt like that really aligned with myself as a person and a player and got a good feel, and [I’m] excited to be here."
Van Egmond will bring a wealth of experience to the midfield for Charlton’s debut WSL campaign, having made 55 appearances across all competitions in England, and scoring 8 times in the top-flight.
After signing on loan from Orlando Pride in 2020, Van Egmond spent the 2020/21 season with West Ham United. The midfielder returned to the WSL for the 2025/26 season, signing from WSL2 side Birmingham City.
Van Egmond’s first home game for Leicester City in the 2025/26 season saw the midfielder score the match-winner as the Foxes recorded a 1-0 victory, despite playing almost half the game reduced to 10 players due to a red card.
The midfielder will join fellow Australians Grace Johnston and Leah Davidson at the club, who both signed their first overseas contract from the A-League Women’s.
Van Egmond is the most-capped Australian player, having made her 170th appearance during the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 semi-final fixture earlier this year, marking 16 years with the national team since making her debut in 2010.
The 2026/27 WSL season will kick off on September 4th, with Charlton hosting Liverpool in their inaugural WSL fixture on the 6th of September at 11pm AEST.
