CommBank Matildas' forward Emily Gielnik has signed for Melbourne Victory in the Liberty A-League for the 2023/24 season, making her return to Victory for a second stint.
Gielnik returns to Melbourne Victory after a stint in England with Aston Villa, making her return to the team she helped win the Premiership in the 2018/19 season. The forward joins two fellow CommBank Matildas at the club, Lydia Williams and Elise Kellond-Knight.
Victory finished last season in fourth, the side secured a spot in the preliminary final after knocking out Melbourne City in a 4-3 dramatic penalty shootout. The side went on to taste defeat to the eventual Champions, Sydney FC, with a 1-0 defeat in the preliminary final.
Gielnik talked about signing for Victory for the upcoming season, “I’m excited to be back at Victory and working with Jeff and the team for the upcoming season and I can’t wait to get started,” she said to melbournevictory.com.au.
“I had a great experience during my first stint at the Club, winning Victory’s first Premiership in the A-League Women’s competition, and I’m looking forward to achieving more success with the squad this season."

Melbourne Victory head coach Jeff Hopkins talked about the signing “It’s wonderful to have a player of her calibre return to the league and join our squad for the upcoming season and we know she will be an important contributor with her experience and guile in front of goal." he said.
