Courtney Nevin signs with Leicester City in the WSL

Courtney Nevin becomes the latest Australian to sign a contract in the Barclays Women's Super League, joining fellow Aussie Remy Siemsen at Leicester City.

The defender signs for the Foxes after spending the last season in the OBOS Damallsvenskan with Hammarby Fotboll where she signed her first overseas contract, now joining Leicester City on loan until the end of the season.

Nevin made 22 appearances for Hammarby in her one-season stint with the Swedish side, scoring two goals and picking up 3 assists for the Stockholm-based side.

The Australian defender joins Remy Siemsen at Leicester City, with the duo signing for the club in the January transfer window. Nevin's new side just picked up their first win of the WSL season and will be aiming to move out of relegation with the addition of the defender.

It feels really good to be here. Leicester City has so much potential, and I'm excited to get stuck in and work hard for this team." Nevin said to LCFC TV.

"The Swedish league is very similar to the WSL. It's very physical, very technical, and hopefully, I can bring those attributes to the team and help get some more points on the table."

Nevin makes the loan switch to the Foxes until the end of the 2022/23 season following the conclusion of the 2022 Damallsvenskan campaign.

The defender joins the recent signing of fellow Australian international Remy Siemsen, with the two having played together at the international level and club levels.

“Me and Remy are good mates, we go back a long time. We’ve played together in Australia so we know each other well, and I can’t wait to play with her again."

“It feels good to be here, I’m excited. I went to the training ground today and saw everything and I can’t wait to get stuck in and start working."

Leicester City is next in action in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup against Reading on Monday 30 January (3:00 am AEDT).
